Default GHB, suggestions for military surplus?

Did a quick search but didn't find any military gear, I have a distinct appreciation for military gear built to spec.

I'm looking for a medium sized camo backpack to combine my various car bags, maybe one would be strictly tools and the other for personal items. Have Camelbacks so I would just slip one in the new pack

Thanks

Cool Wlee, I'll call him.

San Diego should have tons of local gear that I can inspect prior to purchase.

You talking a molle 2 assault pack? That's what I have. It's completely indiscreet, of course, but rugged and cheap.

Have you checked out this vendor? He has ALOT of good prices surplus gear, I think all real deal Marine Core issued stuff. Alot is new, or barley used for pretty damn good prices..

For example I bought a genuine military issued grip pod that retails for up to 170$ for 35$ shipped brand new in package. That's cheaper then a knock off.

Molle system would be good, something like a LC-1 or ILBE.

I think you're looking for the USMC ILBE ARCTERYX Military MARPAT Assault BackPack (MOLLE II compatible). It has a compartment for your camelback. It also works with the ILBE main pack, which has an internal frame and should have a lid and and a radio pouch to boot.

Stopped by GI Joes today and the Assault pack is a bit smaller than I thought, especially for $80, is medic Assault that much bigger?

I would suggest a regular backpack (like what school kid's use) for a GHB. The last thing you want is to stand out as a prepper or someone who night have a firearm.

Now you've dated yourself!/?

Spy, I was going for build quality in the Assault pack that I can move about the cars. I have a quality REI pack you could stuff half your house in and hike to base camp and another good-sized Northface I use for travel.

I was just out at Escondido Metal Supply at 1630 W. Mission Rd. in Escondido (where the 5 meets the 15).

They have the USMC Digital MARPAT ILBE ARCTERYX main packs (surplus) for $35. I didn't see any shoulder straps, but they were selling the hip straps separately.

They also have the MOLLE 3-day assault packs for $30. Every one I looked at had some sort of cut in the fabric, but I only looked at 7-8 out of a large palletful.

Saw plenty of hip straps, radio bags, a couple of other large pack types, ammo pouches, patrol sleeping bags, intermediate sleeping bags, bivy bags, side plate carriers, sniper nets, and various ammo cans that have seen some weather.

My impression was good prices and generally good shape except for those slices in the 3-day assault packs. I may have bought a main pack if I'd seen any shoulder straps.
