Default Idaho Enhanced CCW 07/01/2013

Enhanced CCW available after 07/01/2013. 4 hrs legal gun training and 4 hrs range training 98 rnds live fire. Idaho will issue to non- residents. The legal training it appears must be done by a Idaho attorney or Idaho police officer with firearms certification. NRA instructor for range training. I'm not sure of all of the details as of yet.

It would be nice to have some of our local trainers get connected with the Idaho trainers to offer this new CCW here in Ca. Idaho hope's to get up to 40 states for reciprosity Including NV & Wa. much more info. on the web.

If we can get a group together for a class this summer that would be great!

Obtaining and taking the class necessary to get the enhanced permit appeared to be a good way for CA residents to be able to carry in Nevada as well as many other states. My read shows that this will NOT be a viable method for CA residents unless they already have a CA issued CCW. Section 18-3302k(4)(a) of Idaho Title 18 Chapter 33 (Issuance of Enhanced License to Carry Concealed Weapons) requires that you are either an Idaho resident for six months preceding application or that you have been issued a license by your home state.

"4) The sheriff shall deny an enhanced license to carry a concealed weapon if the applicant is disqualified under any of the criteria listed in section 18-3302(1)(a) through (n), Idaho Code, or does not meet all of the following qualifications:

(a) Has been a legal resident of the state of Idaho for at least six (6) consecutive months before filing an application under this section or holds a current license or permit to carry concealed firearms issued by his state of residence"

If you have different info I would love to hear it as this permit appeared to be a good choice for CA residents until I read the above...

You are correct...No Idaho CWL for non-residents unless they already have a concealed carry permit from their home state.

It's still not clear at this point which states will honor Idaho's enhanced CWL.

If the issue is a California resident who wants to pack in Idaho, open carry is allowed.

I'd check the boiseshooters website from time to time as more info becomes available.

I am simply shocked that Idaho has restricted access to their new enhanced permits and hope this gets fixed in the next legislative session! What sense does it make to provide a Kaliforniastan resident with an Idaho permit, while denying them an enhanced version of the same permit?

In regards to Idaho permit recognition/reciprocity, they have recently added Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming as states that honor the enhanced permit. The Idaho AG sent letters to all states on July 1st, 2013.

Forgot to add the Idaho does have "universal recognition" so they do honor ALL other state permits, thus if you have any valid permit, you can CC in Idaho.

Given the usual mess that Californians (some, not all) make when they move to a normal state, the general vibe I get from legislators is that an existing concealed carry permit from out of state tends to vet the person somewhat, maybe, perhaps. When I moved here in 2000, there was no 6-month residence requirement nor was there a training requirement. I simply signed up the week after moving, using my Texas DL for ID and closing papers on the house for proof of residency.

Idaho does not provide licenses to non-residents unless they already have a permit in their state of residence...that includes regular as well as the new enhanced license. More info here... Idaho CWP Info

That site also has a link to the ISP website which shows other states' current reciprocity relative to Idaho.

Without a CWP, you can open carry within city limits, and/or have a loaded weapon in your vehicle as long as the weapon is in plain sight.

Coolio. Nice to see someone honor a CA CCW permit.
