WTF is up with some retailers? Some people, like you, are saying they ordered ammo no problem. But when I try to order ammo I'm told they won't ship here.

I suspect the misunderstanding stems from the ban (for all of CA) that got passed a couple years ago. Even though a permanent injunction was ordered, the law is still on the books. The CGF Wiki has a section on this. But I could be wrong, which is why I always ask folks to provide source citation to support the claims. Noone has done so yet.

Yep - there are some retailers who just do not get it. And they don't want to hear it either. SGAmmo is one, sportsman's guide is another, and freedom munitions is a third. I can accept if it's store policy, but don't prevaricate and tell me (the person who lives in that area) what the laws are. I know I know them better than any out stater.

Of course, every time this question comes up, there's always a group of folk maintaining that "it's the law" but not providing source citation.
Lots of retailers wont you are right. Some companys will ship to those countys. Most will not. That is why i posted up above always call before you order. And know a days its most companys will not ship to CA. at all. Thanks for ready everthing i posted lol.

Just place your order. During the process, after entering your Zip, it'll refuse your order and tell you they can't ship to you or it'll accept your order.

If they accept your order, you're gtg. If they reject it, no harm, no foul.

Had no problems getting a nice amount of 12 gauge ammo last week from Midway and I'm in Sacramento County. I've also ordered ammo from Sportsmen Guide and Cheaper then Dirt with zero problems, but haven't recently since both have nothing in stock that I can use.

Pretty sure it's LA City not the county that has the ban - I've seen ads for a postal box company in a south bay city that offers to receive your ammo.

Here's something to think about:

I had 1,000 rounds shipped to my local UPS Store so I could have someone sign while I was at work. The ammo was Federal. And it came in a box that had "FEDERAL AMMUNITION" in huge letters across all sides of the box. The guy at the store joked that, "I really shouldn't have signed for this because I'm a felon." He was joking. But it struck me as odd that they'd ship ammo in a box labeled "ammo" for all to see. It's just asking for trouble. Especially in a city that is trying to pass a ban on the possession of hollow point ammunition as well as requiring people to report ammo purchases to the police department...

They say you cant ship to SF but.... I have ordered and received ammo form online stores and people through both UPS and USPS.
I think it is up to the store more or less.

Just had Able Ammo turn me down, said "state law" does not allow it.
Really NO point in arguing with them or anyone else that doesn't "want" to ship to San Francisco.

I just had a delivery from Cabelas (250 rounds of 12g) yesterday to Napa. Did not even ask me to sign for it.

Midway and natchezss shipped ammo to me in Santa Clara county. No problem. UPS just left it on the porch, no need to sign, nothing. THe packages had the ORM-D sticker and another sticker that said "small-arms cartridges" ups didn't even knock on the door. I was home and could have signed.
