I hope that you discover the real 1911 one day. That rubber grip thing is just not nice, and your studio pictures suck.

These are real 1911s (proper stocks) in a $10 "studio":

Actually the gun came with wood grips. I removed them for the Hogue grip as it was the least expensive way for me to get some type of grip on the front side of the grip.

Hopefully one day I'll get the front side of the grip stippled, but until then, I love the feel of the Hogue grips in the hands.

Also, studios are over rated....they are just large rooms of nothing and background paper - the key is how good of a lighting setup you have. That is a magnificent Colt you have there. Would love to shoot both photographicly and on the range one day .

Aside from that, your composition of the gun is very good. Just need a little more lighting or some photoshop work and you got a class A photo. Here, I downloaded your photo and edited with my photoshop skillz to make it a class A pic .

OK, I am still working on my picture skills.

The Colt is the only real 1911. This 01991 is better than the fakes:

I completely agree! Colts are the original and it is definitely a treasured item if one has one - but they are honestly a bit pricey when you can get a similar functioning and quality from secondary companies.

I would love to one day be all loaded up in Colts, Anshultz, and Benelli's, but for now, I'm skating by with my Springfield, CZ, and Mossbergs.

Are you processing any of these pics you are shooting? or are they straight out of the camera? It seems like you are using something along the lines of a desk lamp or spot lamp and shooting it with continuous light. If that is all you have using, in the future, try to even the light out on the guns. If you look at the guns you shot, there are places where the light doesn't touch which causes a shadow that is hard to edit out even with superb photoshop skillz.

It is most apparent in the second photo in the last post you shot. There is a really bright hot spot on the grip handle, which leads me to believe the light was focused there. To completely light the guns, I suggest moving the center focus point of the light to right below the extraction port and it will light the guns the most evenly.

Also the photos seems about 1/2 stop under exposed and you could probably slow the shutter down a stop or bump the ISO up one stop depending on the settings you are shooting at now.

Edit: Since I don't have much to do atm, figure I process another one of your pics. This one took a little more time than the last, but I think it looks pretty good .

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is the browning significantly smaller than the 1911?

Nope its 85% to scale. Just like it's big daddy, but smaller. Everything from the way it comes apart is identical to full size 1911.

Ooooo, so very nice!!!

I shall edit that one for you, give me a few minutes .

Edit: Done!

Another inexpensive studio thing to try as suggested in another thread is a softbox.

Made that with a cardboard box and toilet paper. Cut holes out on the sides and cut out the bottom. Throw your large contruction white paper in there with the top up against the back top curving at the back end and coming out straight. You just need lights on all sides there is an opening and you will have pretty much a solid lighting source for small objects like handguns.

I made that softbox over 10 years ago though. I have studio flash units now and light modifiers which makes the softbox unnecessary for me. With about 1000 combined watts of light, I can make night look like it was day lol.

Whaa....that is pretty darn cool. It is a 45ACP as well? Is that a carry model 1911?

Crummy iPhone picture with some terrible Lightroom editing. Don't have a camera nor much photo editing skills.

Springfield 1911 Loaded. Parkerized finish, which is the obvious bit.

Naw, it most likely he linked the wrong link into the img code. It won't show up unless it is actually a photo.

Alrighty, got all four of them done Colt 1911. I took the liberty to also fix any major scratches on the firearm. I also made it look as if the tape you put on the last one didn't exists. When I photograph my guns, I typically photoshop out the serial so I don't need to cover it up. I must say, it was a little challenge to get those curves and lines straight, but I got it done. Enjoy

See on the last one got rid of the tape. Did a similar job on mine.

Yah. The grain and color of the originals are way better.

That Rock Island is one 1911 that will definitely put the fear of you-know-who into the bad guys!

Thanks for the comments on my Ed Brown grips. I agree the dark colors and contrast look better on that all-black Exec Target. Problem is the finish, which is hard to see in the pictures. Ed puts such a thick shiny finish on his grips, they look like plastic to me. So, I thought I'd try grips that look more like my Colt Gold Cup's. I may go back to the original grips though. Anyway, more pix coming soon.

Just one of my 1911's -- about 500rds thru her and still ridiculously tight. This pistol made me realize how much work I need to put into my fundamentals to really maximize the weapon's potential...
