Carry what your law enforcement does. How can they question your self defense load when it works for the Police. They use it on bad guys, we use it on bad guys.

The extra penetration is needed for LE to penetrate metal, armor, etc...

Normal folks don't need to penetrate vehicles. We need them to stop the BG without flying through 3 walls and killing the neighborhood cat.

I use Hornandy Critical Defense in .40. I have heard the argument that the zombie rounds are identical minus the nickle casing, but who knows.

Use whatever you feel comfortable with. Justifiable homicide can be swayed by any details including what type of rounds are used.

Carry: Snubby .38 and a 9mm. Straight FMJ, it's what I train with.

"Frangible, or soft, rounds are designed to break apart when they hit walls or other hard surfaces to prevent ricochets".

Never seen any, or heard of anyone shooting this type ammo.

Those Ranger Ts and HST look very good on expansion...just nasty stuff there. I am almost convinced I could carry a 9mm with either those rounds and feel comfortable/protected instead of my .45

I guess Im the only one carrying critical duty 135 gr +p?? I guess I don't worry about over penetration because I would not take the shot if someone was behind the threat. But I would take the shot if someone was behind the threat if that gun was aimed at me and my family, so maybe I should look into some lighter loads

I normally run what LEOs use. Was mostly using Federal HST, got some Golden Sabers because I got some for cheap, and now looking for Ranger Ts since it appears to have switched over.

Seems like good advice. Should you ever be involved in a shooting and go to trial, it would be nice to be able to say you were using the same sort of ammo used by the local LEOs. You don't want to have to defend your use of, say, armor piercing depleted uranium bullets...or even green Zombie killer ammo...or anything else that would raise unnecessary concerns. beyond that, your main concern should be using reliable ammo. That means good factory ammo, even if you are an expert reloader...
