Default Was I sold Fake Magpul MBUS? (with pictures)

Are these fake? I want to confirm before I send these back. I ordered from a vendor who is issuing a refund. They are already willing to take them back, but I need to know for sure.

The first thing that sticks out is the raised magpul logo rather then the embossed one.

Plastic sight post

Here is what I ordered from their website.

Are those the air sift / practice versions??? I'd send them back due to wrongful advertising.

looks like the training version. see here:

http://www.amazon.com/Magpul-PTS-MBU...agpul+mbus+pts

MAGPUL PTS PRODUCT FAQ:
1. What is the difference between Magpul PTS and Magpul Industries? - Magpul PTS (Professional Training and Simulation) is a division of Magpul Industries USA that is specifically creates products for the sport of airsoft/simulation.
2. Can I use Magpul PTS on my real steel AR/Rifle? - We highly advise against it.

Definitely fake. The rear of the sight has a different molding design that what you have. Send them back. The fact that they are OK to return them makes me feel that they are aware they are fake. Plus, from how they are packaged, they are being sold as MBUS style sights.

Also look at the hardware. Magpul uses slotted hardware. Someone sold me a set on here as well. Very disappointing.

Bad fakes of Gen 1 Magpul MBUS like even worse than PTS versions.

I don't think Magpul has even made the Gen 1 MBUS for almost 2 years (someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'd ask for a full refund and purchase from a reputable vendor.

This is what it should look like for a generation 1 and current generation 2 MBUS Sight. Note the hardware and the location of the logos. The overall finish is very smooth. When you look at a fake, the most obvious problems are the mold lines. I've seen many fake Magpul products and as soon as you feel the sharp mold lines, you know its a fake. It tells you the tolerance on dies they use to mold the product are inferior. The slotted vs hex hardware depends on the generation of the MBUS site. I would not use the hex vs flat as the only criteria to determine if a sight is real or fake.

Yours looks like a fake Gen1 MBUS sight. The mold lines are bad and the logo is inverted. You should return it since the most obvious sign that it does not match the picture is the way the logo is molded (raised vs recessed). If you look underneath, the two slots should be tapered. The one you have looks like two rectangles instead of a taper. Another obvious sign the sight you have are fake, look at the sight posts. The one you show are made of plastic and you can see the mold lines. The real sight uses a metal post. There should be no arguments that the picture does not match the product delivered to you. If you got the parts at a "good deal", its most likely fake.

Real Deal (Gen 1):

Real Deal (Gen 2):

Most Likely Fake Magpul (Note the jagged edges and mold lines):

Genuine Magpul PTS part (Note the smooth surfaces and recessed PTS logos):

Fake Gen 1:
Note the bottom recessed area near the screws are two rectangular slots. The real deal has a tapered slot (see below).

Real:
The real deal has two tapered slots.

Not fakes, they are Magpul Airsoft sights. The firearm versions also come on a full cardboard backing.

Ouch. All signs point to fakes. Hopefully the vendor will do good a refund/replace them with a genuine set.

Where do you buy these?

Sometimes in trying to save a buck you maybe setting yourself up for this kind of crap vs. going through a reputable seller and paying a little more. I saw a thread on this site a few weeks ago where a member was sold counterfeit Troy sights.

Thanks for all the replies. I have contacted the vendor and they have been prompt and professional in their response. I'm not trying to bash them, just wanted more info about the sights.

I have never purchased NEW mbus sights, only used so i wasn't sure how they were supposed to be packaged. I've seen the gen 2 sold in stores with a cardboard backer, just wasn't sure if they gen 1 was sold the same way.

Does this look as an intentional misrepresentation of a genuine product? I paid $50 including shipping for both. I ordered on 5/27 and they showed up on 6/10

Default sights

It is hard to see in the photo posted above, but if you look closely at the pic of the bottom of the box, you will see a Warning on the lower left area of it done in very fine print. It actually says:
"Warning: This product is designed for Training and Simulation Use only." I bought a set of the same ones here on our site. I thought they were regular sights when I bought them, and this is what I got.

I'd have to go back to paypal records to even see who I bought them from, but I am going to do it. We all should, so we can figure out who is selling the fakes. If several of us bought them from the same guy, maybe we can get Calgun's to pressure them into refunds or at least get rid of them.

PTS versions have PTS embossed on the base of the sights and cost almost as much as the magpul manufactured MBUS.

I was able to see the PTS sights in person today. They were very very different compared to what I have. The PTS had a quality feel to them and did not wobble as much as the cheapo ones did.

The vendor is claiming I was accidentally sent the PTS version, the vendor also claims that the supplier was at fault for supplying the wrong product.

It was a very disappointing experience but I will be getting a refund. Which will be going straight to a reputable vendor

Yup, thats true. On my set of PTS that were sent in place of genuine I bought, they took tape and ripped that off the box!

True, the molding on those seem really "cobby" and raw. Possibly fake/knock off. not even PTS version by Magpul.

Good thing the vendor is issuing a refund!

Additionally, here's a link to my PTS thread with more info for any future viewers,

Robert
