No way I was going to bring out my expensive camera in that wind, especially after having spent $$$ getting it cleaned after covering a forest fire.

after much consideration whether or not to give out the famous recipe for tri tip, I have come to the conclusion that is in the best interest of the Cal Guns community to share it

take a tri-tip and rub it generously with Kirkland brand Sweet mesquite seasoning found at your local costco. let it sit for 1 hr or more depending on when you will be ready to cook it.
next put it in the Char-Broil Big Easy
cook for an hr to hr and half until the internal temp is 135-140. dont overcook it.

Let rest for 15 mins, and cut to desired size helpings

that is really all that is too it, the big easy has one temp and is either on or off, its that easy.
with the racks for it you can cook 3 at a time and as long as you dont overcook them, they will turn out perfect everytime.

Now lets go shopping!

I'm down for a 4.5. I'm not bringing a canopy this time. That became an expensive target.

For those who live in the Barstow area, is it safe to say that the Santa Ana winds don't really kick up until end of winter and throughout spring?

In all my years of high desert camping, the worst winds seem to kick up between March and June.

Heat gets bad between July and October.

Late October through February always seems pretty good as long as you've got an RV/tent/warm sleeping bag. Bugs don't seem to be so bad either.

No reliable way to predict weather patterns several months out, but I like the Oct-Feb window for a mini-ZS.

Then of course I've never been to one, so I'm just throwin' my .02 in as an "event newbie".

I'm going to merge this thread into the SSZS archives for posterity.

As you already know.

The SSZS happens only once a year; perhaps, that's why this event is so unique and desired.

That being said; maybe it is time for me to promote a 0.5 event.

But then again, IDK.......

I have really mixed feelings about the .5.

I planned a very secret one, and it was not posted out in the open. It was sent via PM only. Long story short....It didn't get as far as I wanted.

BUT, as MrLoneWolf says....The anticipation of waiting 12 months for a shoot is the best part. That ensures minimal excuses too.

Any chance the target date could be moved away from the "Santa Anas" season?
