Default Faxon ARAK-21 - AK Style AR Upper

Has anyone purchased or shot one of these uppers? They look pretty cool.

The wife said she wants an AR, but only if it's red. Maybe this is it.

I have not shot one of these but I did spend a while looking one over and talking to the owner/designer at shot show. It's a little heavy and blocky but the machine work and design looked really good. I can't say I saw any compelling reason to own one. But it might actually be a good option right now if they're available with standard upper parts so hard to find.

A member on the xcrforum has one. The combo package. Said it is very well made, fairly light and very accurate.

Pre ordered March 14th and was delivered on April 10th. Order #42 Serial #6 very clean and solid. Have not had a chance to break her in. I remember purchasing my Daewoo DR200 back in Fall of 99' and did not shoot it till fall of 07'... Hopefully in another week.

i have several of these on order, i signed up to be a dealer at SHOT Show, and let me tell you what, on first glance this is the "AR15 PERFECTED". They are built like a "tank" but is still extremely light weight. When i put my hands on one i could not believe how light it was. I seriously think these uppers were the one of the top highlights of the entire SHOT Show.

Im so excited to get these in i can hardly wait (supposed to have my first ones any day now)

I was also told that they are going to be working on an SBR version of this, and honestly the thing is just screaming to be Short barreled and suppressed. Hoorah

I wish they offered a 14.5" option.

Interesting in that you can swap out barrels pretty easily for $429. But the $1,150 price point for a complete Upper is on the high end.

Would like to know who makes their barrels, they are button rifled and nitrided - a bit better than the usual hammer-forged, chrome-lined norm.

Their attached bolt/carrier/gas piston is pretty clever.

Disagree. At $1150 it is not on the high-end, but the norm for a piston upper.

I think it's a pretty cool idea but I think they need to tone down the logs a little.

They should use LA Joe's picture in their marketing material. That looks pretty sweet.

I think Faxon did change the logo size on newer production uppers. See their Facebook page for pics.

they asked me if i wanted the logos and i told them to forgo them, so you have the option to not have them if you dont want them, a lot of people were saying that the logos were to big and unattractive, and this company listens!!!!

Refreshing isn't it? so many companies don't. Although I did send Faxon an email few weeks ago asking about 14.5" barrels and never got a response.

I see a no logo option on the ordering page now, thanks for pointing it out.

I see no reason for it to not have the same longevity as any civilian market AR. The kind of longevity you speak of (battlefield) is irrelevant.

Faxon is too small to ever be considered for any military contract. The only chance for that to happen, and it's slim, is for it to be bought by one of the big contract suppliers like FN.

If you have a Colt Hbar II Sporter lower receiver, the Arak21 upper clears the Colt lower sear block...... I slapped on the Arak21 upper on my Colt HBAR II and it's good to go. If you need images, please let me know.

Default Sear Block Clearance

Clearance is just over 1/16 of an inch. Hoping to make time for this Sunday but it's not looking good.

Well i hope they stick around. Seems they have a good idea going.

They have to start some where.

If they can show their stuff can hold up, them maybe it would stick around and get more buyers.

We shall see how it turns out.

That's the deal breaker for piston systems for me as well. Other than that though, it looks cool. A SBR version would be even better.

If looks mattered, yes. It's screaming to be SBR'd. Looks awkward with a 16" barrel sticking out like it does. Could use an extended hand guard... either a longer upper or an add-on (like the extended rails for the SCAR).

Any opinions on the barrel choices? Is Heavy the way to go here? I sent them a e-mail with no reply yet. I'm liking the look of it......looks angry, pissed off and ready for business.

Why medium over heavy. Wouldn't the heavy be more accurate?

Read the review in Recoil, there was no specification of what barrel they used.

Received email from buck.hendrickson@faxonfirearms.com, said they are working on 14.5" barrel that is at least 6 months away.

Wonder if they would cut a 16 down for an added fee?

Probably too busy filling orders for 16". Should be able to just order the 16 then send it to ADCO in Ohio for cut down and pinning. Shouldn't need to do anything with the gas port.

It'll definitely be heavier :-) This isn't a precision rifle so I doubt it matters but if u like things heavy it's your money.

They don't offer a 7.62x39 option? How can an ARAK upper not offer the 7.62x39 option?? Otherwise it looks good, really good.

I hate to revive dead threads but I'm very intrigued by this upper. I also noticed they ship to CA which is excellent.

Anyways, my question is has anyone heard anything about these or seen one of these in the last year?

Hope they offer a 7.62x39 version sometime in the near future.
