Default Burro Canyon - Level 1 Defensive Pistol, & Low Light Pistol Class, Sat May 25

Join us as Calgun’s teams up with Civilian Arms Training to bring you a defensive pistol class and a low light pistol class on Saturday May 25 at Burro Canyon.

Level 1 Defensive Pistol

This class is designed to help develop the student from the ground up.

Working on the student’s foundation is very important. For new students as well as seasoned shooters we have found that teaching proper stance, grip sight alignment, sight picture and trigger control from the beginning, helps them to develop good habits that are useful in recreation or in a lethal threat situation.

We believe in teaching all students how to handle stoppages and malfunctions. We call these immediate-action-drills . The long time shooter who has been developing bad habits can re-adjust to progress forward for better shot placement and enhance his ability to hunt, compete and become a better and safer shooter for himself and others. The last few hours of the class the student will put together all that they have learned in a real world scenario called an urban conflict drill. (U.C.D.)

What to Bring:
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • Comfortable loose fitting pants (bdu’s)
  • Weapon side retention hip holster-Kydex-Uncle Mike -BlackHawk-Fobus-Galco-etc (strongly recommended)
  • Drop rigs, low rides & shoulder holsters not recommended in level I defensive pistol
  • Drop rigs, low rides & tactical holsters may be used by women to accommodate anatomy
  • At least 3 magazines
  • Double Magazine Carrier (DMC) for your size mag’s
  • Your own firearm if you own one
  • 250 rounds of ammunition (ammunition may not be available at the range, however a pro shop is open)
  • A sack lunch and plenty of water/fluids to drink
  • Sun block / lip balm, you know the drill for you
  • A sturdy belt-(mandatory)
  • Ammo pouch for your loose ammo (bdu’s may suffice)
  • A pen and note-taking gear

Location: Burro Canyon Shooting Park, Range North 1
Date: Saturday, May 25, 2013; 8:00am - 5:00pm
Cost: $90 includes range fee. Pay the day of. Cash or Check ok. No Credit Cards, no signal at Burro to run Credit Cards.

Low Light Pistol Class

Gun owners typically do not realize how potentially dangerous and ill-equipped one can be when it comes to self-defense in low-light or no-light scenarios. You are at a huge disadvantage when darkness prevents you from knowing what your surroundings are or what is beyond your threat.

Night shooting is probably one of the most over looked class to attend by even the most avid shooters. It doesn’t matter if you are agency personal or seasoned hunter or protecting the home, night shoots move you to the next level.

Statistically over 70% of shootings occur at night or under low light conditions. More often than not if you have not trained with your gun under low light or no light you will be seriously disadvantaged.

What to Bring:
  • Pistol handgun with at least 3 mags (.22lr – 45acp acceptable)
  • Weapon side thumb break retention holster – drop rigs & Serpa ok,
  • Double mag carrier
  • Comfortable loose fitting pants (BDU’s)
  • At least 200 rounds of ammo
  • Flashlight holster
  • Surefire type light (Mag light ok) (limited rentals available)
  • Surefire type light with Red or Green lens
  • Plenty of fluids (i.e. water, Gatorade, etc.)
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Cold weather gear

Location: Burro Canyon Shooting Park, Range North 1
Date: Saturday, May 25, 2013; 5:30pm – 10:30pm
Cost: $90 includes range fee. Pay the day of. Cash or Check ok. No Credit Cards, no signal at Burro to run Credit Cards.
Class size: Limited to 20 students

More info on Civilian Arms Training, www.civilianarmstraining.com

Sign up for both classes and pay only $160 instead of $180.

...How do we officially sign up? Or do we reserve ours right here?

This might be a dumb question but for the handheld light I would bring my "mechanic flashlight" streamlight stinger because that's all I have besides the weapon mounted x300. Is that gonna be too big or do y'all recommend to go out and get a smaller little hand sized surefire?

Either way me and another fellow calgunner pal are planning to attend at least one of these courses. I will pm when I decide whether or not to take the plunge to go all day for both.

I'm no sure how big that streamlight is but I would say if its about the size of a Mag light I would personally get something smaller.

You might want to take a look at Costco also. I was there the other day and they have a 2 pack of a surefire type light for about 30 bucks.
