Good point. You can download the same apps you have on your phone onto your iPad for no additional charge. Same goes for when you upgrade your iPhone or iPad.

Is it the same for Android devices? (I don't know...)

Yes it's the same. Once you own the app (other than AV apps) you can install it on all of your android devices. Don't forget that Amazon gives away one free "pay app" every day. Many are cheese but some are really great.

OP, if money's not an issue give Apple a shot. For what you want to do with it the iPad mini excels at. If money is an issue get one of the less expensive brands. Also a retina display mini will be out by fall if you can wait. I personally can't wait for it.
LOL, seems like someone takes waaaaayyyy too much pride in an Ipad.

I own more Apple stock than most people's cars are worth. But I bought a Nexus 7. It clearly wasn't a money issue.

That is good to know. Would be nice to keep ebooks on little cards and then still have more room for appz and other things.

NO doubt. I forgot to include this as a CON. WTH were they thinking putting the ONLY camera on the front? Are they catering to the SELFIES crowd? It is very hard to shoot upskirt shots with that camera when it faces the same direction as the scree- wha? What did I say? Oh, sorry, that was an inside thought, not supposed to make it to the outside.

No seriously though, any chance of taking a photo is like making a trick shot since the camera and the controls are facing the same direction. I gotta be in frame to make sure the shot looks good, and well, GOOD aint really the word to use... All of the photo apps I have given up on for the most part. They are just NOT meant for this android tablet, better to use them on a phone. I DO like the flashlight app though that turns the screen bright white so you can use it as a light and walk around in the dark... LoL.

They were thinking that darn few people would care about using an unwieldly tablet as a camera, but that a lot might want to use a tablet for video conferencing. If you need a camera use your smartphone.

clearly the only way to go is running around with a tablet taking pictures of everything you see.

And people used to make fun of tourists with cameras hanging from their necks.

Bought my oldest boy a Nexus 7" for his 6th birthday back in February. Awesome little durable tablet and very fast. Great battery life also. The glass is darn near indestructible in this thing, wifi range is awesome also. Have nothing but good things to say about it. Looking at getting the Nexus 10 for myself but the transformer TF700's look good too!

Have you considered the Galaxy Note 8"? It's 1" bigger but comes with a stylus that allows you to write / draw on the tablet.

It also has MultiView...you can open 2 apps and see them side by side...just like (almost) a PC/Mac.

LoL. I want to get a wallpaper then that looks like a massive clock if I wear my tablet around my neck.

Flava FLAV!

No though, I keep forgetting that there are a lot of cameras out there that are not the nexus, and they also run android OS and those damn camera apps must be for THEM... (but they load up...)

True, but many people do just that, and end up realizing they can only surf the web and play Angry Birds on a screen a bit larger than their phones. If the OP's intended use is for similar tasks, then he should be ok.

And what's not sleek about that laptop? Sure it's a bit larger than the tablets, but much more capable. Good thing I'm not your employee.

Tablets are going to be old news in a few years. Smart phones are the way to go for mobile computing and such. Do a bit of research and see why. Hell, my smart phone has more computing power than most, if not all, tablets. Most smart phones can do all that a tablet does and then some.

As I mentioned I wanted a 7" class tablet to run something like Garmin Pilot or Foreflight as a secondary navigation and mapping source. Tuesday and Wednesday I flew a Vans RV-6 from Montgomery Alabama to Fresno, CA using the Nexus 7. It did exceptionally well in that role, great GPS functionality, readable under the direct sunlight in the bubble canopy, and it ran Garmin Pilot, Naviatior, and Avilution Aviation Maps flawlessly. The size is a perfect fit for a kneeboard and the small RV cockpit.

I've been on the road for a week using it for a bit of everything and I like it allot. It's just big enough to see easily, small enough to fit in a cargo pocket, easy to use, fast and reliable, has fantastic battery life, and has a great screen.

I think it's a great value.

It's useful to have a camera on the back. I gave a N7 to my grandfather. He's part of a church choir. He has a hard time reading the lyrics off the sheet of paper. I wanted to just take pictures of the song sheets on his N7 so he can just carry the N7 and zoom in on the lyrics. I had to scan it and then move it to the N7 instead of just taking the pictures with a back camera. The convenience of a back camera is a good thing.
