I remember the cartoons as a kid, Macross, RB Masters and Invid invasion. Very drama oriented and depicted death frequently. Oh how times have changed.

Have some of the toys still, packed away in the garage. Series in on Netflix right now. Classic stuff.

Not in Japan! If anything it's gotten more drama, more violent. Fansubs ftw

Doh.

I read Robotech, but thought Battletech.

Spent lots of money on Battletech and RedPlant at Triangle Square years decades ago.

Did you take advantage of the machinegun bug before we abused it so much that they had to tweak the system?

Not sure about the bug. One of my co-workers was tech support or something for them. I'll ask him about it. If it was your fault they shut it down, I need to have a word with you!!!

Nah. A bunch of my buddies all were into Battletech/Mechwarrior back then, so we all convoyed down to Virtual World Dallas and geeked out there regularly. We also were pretty knowledgeable about the weapons systems, and I stumbled on something VW didn't consider. . . machinegun damage per second.

The version we were playing had machineguns doing 1 point of damage per hit, with zero heat output. So we loaded up Sunders with 15 machineguns, x 500 rds of ammo each, and you can get an idea of the ridiculous amount of damage each of us were slinging out. Granted it was super short range, but mechs were exploding within 5-10 seconds as soon as we were in range. It was an absolute slaughter and we were all giggling while killing each other 20 times over.

A couple of weeks of that and VW apparently had enough. Machinegun damage was downgraded to .1 damage per hit. We were all sad pandas after that.

Robotech, although was a 85 episode longest running serial cartoon in the history of US WAS watered down. After watching Macross where they cussed and had nudity, I liked that much better although I DID love Robotech. If that ever happened in real life I would sign up. I wanna fly a battleoid but I will settle for a Cyclone which have got to be the COOLEST motorcycles EVER made...
