Default CA DFG on BLM East Counry San Diego area.....

So I was out shooting with my girlfriend yesterday (4-14-2013) and I saw a DFG officer stop and talk to the group of folks shooting near us. He spent quite awhile with them, but could not tell if it was just friendly chit chat or if he was contacting them for some official reason.

After awhile I was just sitting down watching my girlfriend shooting and I saw the DFG officer watching us through binoculars. I guess he noticed that I noticed him because he then came over on foot, greeted us and said that he was "checking on some wildlife" and walked past us and turned around once he past us and our vehicle.

Needless to say there was no "wildlife" anywhere near us since we'd been shooting there for hours. Just made wonder what he was up to especially after the amount of time he'd spent talking to the first group.

Even though I had no reason to, it made me feel uneasy.....

Are you sure he was Fish and Game? The reason I ask is that two weeks ago I was stopped there by BLM Ranger Funk driving a white truck. He was very nice and we had a great conversation about keeping the area clean. He said it would eventually be closed due to noise complaints from neighbors, something he can't control. I asked about when the area would be closed again for fire season and he said it probably wouldn't be closed this year. The reason? Cal Fire complained that they were losing money. Hahaha, now isn't that an interesting point of view? We left the area as clean as when we arrived and by the way, it was like heaven out there that day.

They hassled me a few years back claiming to check if we were hunting, (even though clearly we have targets set up). They asked to check my AR for a bullet button which I complied. They then pulled out the tape measure to see if I had the legal length. I think they are bored and fishing for a felony.

I figured he was looking for a reason to contact me. Makes me wonder how it would've went if I had one of my RAW with me. I've had one out with me before a few times. I'll be hesitant to take one out there now too, which sucks.

Looking forward to hear what y'all think....

I was out both the 13th and 14th. Visited with Ranger Funk for a while Saturday, went back out Sunday morning and picked up a 5 gallon bucket of brass from the same site I had cleaned up Saturday. We left the place immaculate Sunday afternoon. Trash bags full of clays and wads. Almost 400 .40 and .45 shell casings, and an uncountable mess of .223 and .308.

I also saw the Fish and Game officer. Had a nice visit, offered to let him shoot at some of the targets we had set out, seemed like a nice guy. Didn't really ask many questions, just let us know that BP had been looking for someone in the area and telling us to keep our eyes open as someone might run between us and our targets.

Girlfriend shot my Savage Axis .223. At 100 yds, she had 13 shots in a 3" group with 5 of them overlapping each other. The other 2 shots went into 2 clays that someone had left. As a result, I may have just lost that gun to her.

Was this the spot 1/4 mile past the BP checkpoint or the one past SBRG?

No. I'd edit your post too because someone will whine about posting specific locations here. I don't think they're that big a secret though. Pm me if you have a question about anything.

BLM has it's own fire suppression equipment including air tankers.
