Default Gun safe shopping

In the market for one. Im interested in the rectangular shaped kind. Nothing too tall but would like it wide so I can fit it under my tv stand. I would use it mainly for my boxes of ammo and extra mags. Please point me in the right direction CGers!

Sounds like you are looking more for a lock box then a safe.

Yeah I guess but I dont want to use just a key for security. Id prefer a numeric code or some sort like a safe

You can look for document safes/lockers at any office supply store such as office depot or staples. Many of them have keypad entry. I've never tried any of them, but its a place to look. They may fit your bill, although 6" outside dimension isn't a lot when your talking about a fire-resistant safe. You could try something like this: http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...cat=2000000371
Good luck.

If you want a box rather than a full blown safe, get a strong box with a simplex lock. They're more secure and reliable than keyed boxes or biometric boxes. I really like the Fort Knox Controlled Access boxes. Sounds like the dimensions fit your requirements perfectly.

Stay away from cheaper boxes and "vaults" because they're not really secure:

I wouldn't buy a safe for ammo and magazine storage, a good metal storage cabinet should be good enough.

Check out www.gunsafesnow.com; just got a new one from them couple weeks back. Great selection and probably something along the lines your looking for and their prices are really good...usually free shipping as in my case too. Mine came out from Illinois I think and got here really quick.

Home Depot and Lowes carry smaller safes. Usually where the fire extinguishers are.

I just picked up a locking toolbox for this at Sears. My ammo is now neatly organized in 2.5 feet of 26" wide drawers. The tools are in the two tiers on top of that.
