I put this on my Facebook page and personally messaged about 100 friends. Sigs have doubled in the last 30 minutes. This thing is gaining traction.

Note also that the kid is back in school this week, and someone supplied 100 similar shirts to other kids in the county - all worn on Monday.

What was done to this young man for exercising his civil rights is unexcusable.

A lawsuit would properly punish this transgression, serving as an example
to the schools, and indeed, to his fellow classmates, exactly why we have
a Bill of Rights.

Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District

Quote:
The First Amendment, as applied through the Fourteenth, did not permit a
public school to punish a student for wearing a black armband as an anti-
war protest, absent any evidence that the rule was necessary to avoid
substantial interference with school discipline or the rights of others.
Eighth Circuit reversed and remanded.
I sincerely hope you are correct in your appraisal "Somebody is gonna get sued."

I would like to see it go further.

The teacher involved needs to be dismissed.

The police who enforced an arrest (who had the discretion not to) need to be dismissed.

The school district policy needs to be reviewed by the school board.

The principal needs to be put on notice that one more civil rights violation in his or her school will meet with dismissal.

There MUST be accountability for willful abuse of power by the police, including false arrest (regardless if he is charged, he was arrested) and the teacher needs to be held at a minimum civilly liable for their actions.

Without accountability, this will continue to happen.

It's the same thing I always say: Follow the money.

The minute it costs some one their job and hits them in their pocketbook, they'll think twice before being stupid.

A lawsuit can directly lead to the above changes.

Reviewed for what? IMO there is nothing wrong with the policy. It's just that the teacher and principal didn't follow the policy.

Reviewed to see if it goes far enough to protect students from these abuses. Again, if the policy clearly states you WILL be dismissed for willful violations of civil rights, the teachers might actually THINK for a minute rather than give some kind of guttural response.

The policy I believe is weak on holding people accountable from the little I have been able to read about it. I could be wrong, and it could have that kind of accountability, but I doubt it at this point.

Perhaps I'm thinking of a different type of policy (rules for students). But I see where you're going. I doubt any policy would go as far as holding teachers/principals accountable for wrongful accusations.

The policy can protect from wrongful accusers but protect the students from teachers wrongfully abusing their position. That makes for a good policy IMHO.

But you're probably right.

i'm delighted to see law suits and the wearing of "more" gun t shirts and offenders being disiplined in response to the the clearly stated brainwashing progrom. no one is worthless, in the case of some of these teachers their worth is as an example. lets do what we can to not let the opportunity get away.

Default 14yr old suspended for NRA T-shirt facing possible 1yr in jail...

Total Bulls#$t...

http://www.wtrf.com/story/22587338/1...1-year-in-jail

"Suspended and arrested after refusing to change his NRA shirt. Today, 14-year-old Jared Marcum appeared before a judge and was officially charged with obstructing an officer.

A $500 fine and up to a year in jail, that's the penalty that Jared could face, now that a judge has allowed the prosecution to move forward with it's obstructing an officer charge against him."

Wow! Seriously! So the officer involved basically implied that wearing an NRA logo is the equivalent to a threat of terror? Does anyone else realize the larger implications of this? Good for the kid for refusing to take his shirt off.
