What would make you think that 3 gun would exempt your AR from AW laws in this state?

From what i've seen, if you wanna use an AR for 3 gun, you either go featureless, or you train the crap out of yourself to use the UBBT mags effectively

Go with a bullet button setup, it will prove more useful for competition that way when it's used in the proper mode.

Legally you will need to live with 10 round mags in CA

??? Why are you recommending this route?

OP, go featureless.

I have a Hammerhead on my featureless AR, but most of the shooters I see use Monster Man grip covers. You have to have a fixed stock and you will probably have to replace your flash hider with a muzzle brake. That just gets rid of the bullet button. You still need to learn how to change mags quickly.

go featureless or compete out of state

I run featureless, got 2 U-15 stocks when they came out. One on my H/D gun and one on my competition gun. I like to be able to grip the stock for better control in competition. When shooting out of state, I'll put my A2 stock and run a pistol grip. Also with a rifle buffer v/s carbine buffer there is a noticeable difference in recoil. Nothing worse than going to the USPSA 3G Nationals with a featureless stock and hear the jokes about "what the hell is that thing" LOL! I would look at the Hammer Head Stock system.

I think some of the guys telling you to compete featureless aren't taking into account the Cali divisions.

At least in So Cal, if you compete with a bullet button you can compete with other bullet button shooters. You don't have to compete against the Tac Optics people with their non-bullet button rifles.

Here those divisions are 10 round mags for both rifle and pistol. The shotgun is a Limited/Tactical shotgun.

In Piru and Pala you can also compete with a rifle that's manually operated with 10 rd magazines (no bullet button required in this case), bipod and second optic OK.

It's like shooting Production vs. shooting in Limited or even Open.
