Just got finished with my initial interview. Now the waiting begins....

I have an appointment tomorrow, but when I checked the website for the time it only lists the date. Any of you guys that have had an appointment recently when are you supposed to show up? First thing in the morning?

You should have scheduled a time when you set it up. Did you get a confirming email with the date/time?

Yeah I just figured it out. When I checked with the online appointment system, it would only give me a date. I found the original email, and it had the time in there.

For your good cause statements, have you guys been putting more than just "Self Defense"? It says to list "For example, has your life or property been threatened or
jeopardized? Explain incidents and include dates, times, locations, and names of police agencies
to which these incidents were reported."

I've had someone attempt to mug me and whatnot, but I none of that ever went on a police report.

All Sacramento County requires is a statement that you wish to carry concealed for protection for yourself and your family. Nothing more is required.

What are modifications that are allowed to a ccw handgun?

My glock doesn't have night sights so I ordered a set of XS Big Dot. I don't want to loctite them on just to find out I can't use them.

I was approved at the 31 day mark, with a good cause statement of "I wish to carry a firearm for self-defense". I have a clean record, minus some speeding tickets from 2010.

CA Penal Code is silent on this. Many instructors and LEOS spread FUD that you must leave your CCW guns stock (and in Placer County's case, they heavily restrict, and actually inspect your carry gun prior to issuance). However, most attorneys will tell you that what matters most in a court case is whether or not you were legally justified in shooting, not what type of sights, grips, laser, etc. is on your gun.

In short, put the Big Dot's on there and carry on

I havent took the class yet or have my ccw, but if i get to the class and the trainer says that "modification" isn't allowed. What do I do?

Silly question, do you need to be a resident of Sac County to apply? I live on the Peninsula, not sure but I think it's no where near as easy as that here.

No I took my class from Wes and. Joe

Edit to add, it should only matter that you can hit the targets, and can conceal the gun

The DOJ roster states that all guns on the roster are approved with or without night sights. While it doesn't talk about aftermarket installation, it would seem to indicate that they don't mind about those.

I read somewhere that Sac Sheriff will not accept CCW refresher course if it is over 30 days prior to your renewal date.

Based on above and my change in residence last week plus I want to change 1 of the firearms on my permit, I waited to schedule a class and renewal this week.

Well, I have a class, but the earliest appointment is May 8th, which is 2 weeks AFTER my permit expires.

Am I going to have to do EVERYTHING over again? Can I carry during that time?

WTF!!!

Just shoot Amber an email. She's very nice and will let you know. They may make an exception if that's the case because of the back log :-) please let us know what comes of this!

I was hoping someone has been through this already and they could answer my question.

I emailed her this morning and left a voice message.

I will follow up with what happens.

Rant!
So appointments where added 3/31... I've been checking the web page three times a day, sometimes more, for over a year. I've never seen a single appointment available, except the blackout dates on the old calendar, and have yet to see a single email notifying me of any new appointments opening up.
I really question how many appointments they take per day and how many they added on the 31st.
End rant.

Read the other Sacramento county forum http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...0#post10990600 to read others rants about this. :-) The have been releasing 350 apts at a time and notifying the 1st 500 people on the notification list. If you are not in the 1st 500 you won't be notified. As apts are made the next 500 are notified on the next release day. The are doing apts all day 2 days a week last I heard. Addin special days occasionally. Hope this helps :-)

You may want to put yourself on the sheriffs email list, this is the ONLY way to get accurate info about available appointments. By the way everyone my appt is next week I'm very anxious!

Why Ammo Depot? I'm done with them since they decided to gouge on ammo prices.

I wasn't aware that they started doing that. I only buy online anyways. I took their NRA basic pistols course and it wasn't bad, and more imporantly, they were the only place in town who had spots open when I registered a couple weeks ago.

Yeah, last time I was in there they wanted $1/round for pretty much all the rifle ammo. I laughed and walked out.

It was clinical when I had my interview. They didn't chat me up, just asked me the questions on the CCW form. You'll be fine. Good luck.

The not knowing what is going to be asked is the worst but it will be fine, as you know by now. No hot lights, interrogation, or screaming. We watch too many cop shows!

I just renewed mine. Was told that it has to be within 60 days of the expiration. Expires on the 8th. Set up training in February and and a renewal appt in the first week of March. Went in, did the paper work and was told that the new license would be sent out the following day. Got the new license 2 days after the appointment. Had to wait a month before the old license expired before I could start carrying my new gun.

While I was there, they said they were planning on opening the Rancho office to do the application process as well. They are still up to their eyeballs in requests.
