Default Multiple gun transfer due to restraining order?

My friend inherited 40+ guns just over a year ago. 7 pistols, rest long guns. Just this month he ended up with a 3 year restraining order placed against him. His guns are already in possession of the sheriffs department. They told him he could sell them to a dealer, they don't seem to want to store them for the 3 years.

He wants to sell most of them and was planning to before the restraining order.
Could he use an FFL to transfer all of them to me, and then I sell them individually for him through an FFL and keep the ones he wants to keep and then transfer them back after the 3 years? Would this be considered some type of illegal transfer? The whole idea is to get them out of the SO with out selling them all to a dealer.

Thank You in advance for all the assistance with this issue.

You can do what you're thinking as long as you ensure he doesn't have access to them when they are in your possession. I had the same situation apply to a customer (less guns), but it was all at PD. All PPTd to his friend who is holding them until his restraining order stuff clears.
