I am a relatively new member. I signed up when I purchased my first handgun a month ago. This is an incredible site with so much information and very helpful individuals with the same agenda. Going into my second month of delay status with my DROS I read the DROS thread and saw all the others experiencing the same issues. So what im wondering is what do everyones donations go to support. I am familiar with the Puerta case wish didnt go so well and now read that so many people cant even get support from the DOJ when trying to legally purchase a weapon. So im just curious what do our donations go to, even when people donate to the NRA what do they do for us. I see more restrictions and more laws against gun owners so where is the benefit of giving? (disclaimer)... i fully support this site and have learned alot from all the different threads and thank everyone for all their positive information so far.

signed... losing hope

Yes, The Calguns Foundation (CGF) is an unaffiliated 501(c)3 non-profit corporation; Calguns.net, LLC (CGN) is a privately-owned for-profit corporation.

You can make your tax-deductible donations to CGF through our links at http://calgunsfoundation.org/donate.

A nice way to start the weekend.

I donated $300 to CGF yesterday to match my new $300 NRA life membership.

Sometimes this gets confusing

What's the difference between CalGuns Foundation; CalGuns.net and now the new CGSSF.

I read old threads where there seemed to be significant differences of opinion between CalGuns Foundation and CalGuns.net.

Did CalGuns.net spin of the CGSSF non-profit because of disagreements with the Foundation?

All very confusing actually.

I'll give it a shot...

Calguns.net is an internet forum doing what internet forums do, discussion, marketplace etc. They solicit contributions to keep the FORUM alive and well.

Calguns Foundation. From there FAQ:
http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/abo...at-is-cgf.html

Quote:
The Calguns Foundation (www.calgunsfoundation.org) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which serves its members by providing Second Amendment-related education, strategic litigation and the defense of innocent California gun owners from improper or malicious prosecution. The Calguns Foundation seeks to inform government and protect the rights of individuals to acquire, own, and lawfully use firearms in California.
CGSSA (Calguns Shooting Sports Association). Mission statement:
http://cgssa.org/mission-statement-menu

Quote:
Calguns Shooting Sports Association (CGSSA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and expansion of the shooting sports and 2nd Amendment rights in California.
We are California firearms owners, collectors, hunters, enthusiasts, competitive and recreational shooters and others interested in safe and legal shooting sports and firearms related activities.

CGSSA's functions and goals are to:

Offer events where members can enjoy both competitive and recreational shooting in a safe and friendly environment.

Introduce the shooting sports, firearms hobbies, safety, skills, and legal ownership to those interested but unfamiliar with firearms.

Support, enhance, and defend our Second Amendment rights through grassroots advocacy.

Be of service to our fellow enthusiasts and the firearms/shooting sports community throughout California.

CGSSA will have statewide oversight by a Board of Directors in strict compliance with State and Federal laws.
CGSSA is a volunteer organization with a strong bias towards local chapter management by the community and members.
CGSSA membership will be free with financial support provided by donors, sponsors, event fees, and other ancillary sources.
Both these solicit donations for their respective efforts. Both are non-profit orgs. As you can see by their mission statements, both CGF and CGSSA are geared towards different efforts. There may be some overlap in the "support/defend/educate 2a" areas but overall they're really not competing the way you may have thought (at least that's how I see it ).

I'm not officially representing anything with the above info, just trying to give perspective from another user who's had similar thoughts.

It's understandable some of the confusion since they all have "Calguns" in their names but it just takes a little reading/investigation to see they are in fact all different. Most of the problem stems from us laymen, when we use the term CALGUNS we use it as an all encompassing word. From the forum users to the forum leaders to CGF and the newly formed CGSSA (which evolved from the C3 on the forum). Most of the time this is "OK" since depending on the context most people understand what is meant. Other times we need to be more technically careful with the terminology.

Hahaha, sorry that turned into a long post, hope it helped!

Thanks! That helps a little.

Between NRA, CRPA, GOC, CGF and CGSSA, and probably several I don't even know about that are all non-profits, it's hard to tell who is doing the most good for our rights.

Many of us have shrinking budgets for donations and it's getting harder to decide where it should go.

One important consideration is that CGF is a 501(c)3, and, as such, donations to it are tax-deductible.

The Calguns Foundation has been around for a number of years helping CA gun owners in many meaningful ways.

Shooting events are fun and we need those people who coordinate them, but what good are turkey and pumpkin shoots if you have nothing to shoot them with because they're banned?

This is crunch time - donate accordingly.

well, since CGF is not CGN, a contribution to CGF will never get you the CGN Contributor tag.

You need to donate to CGN to become a CGN contributor.

To whom it may concern,

I think I just made a very small contribution to CGN. I pray it went through. Although I cannot afford very much, I deeply believe in what you do. My plan is to make small contributions as frequently as I can in the belief that something is better than nothing.

To whom it may concern,

I am saying, without asking permission, that contributing to CGN is one of the most liberating things I have ever done.

This site, these people, are so deserving of support. It is a privilege to be able to give a bit of money to this cause. Lord knows, I will NOT give you ammunition.

OK, so I've been a CalGuns.net contributor for a long time.

So today I joined Cal Guns Foundation today and made a donation.

And yesterday I made another donation to the NRA.

That's fills my donation budget for the year .. unless something really special comes up.
