Until someone compares me to the QEII then I would take that title too but that is just too close. LOL

I got a new job once, and asked what title I should have on my business cards. Boss said "Whatever you want, make up your own title".

I suggested "Galactic Overlord", but the printer wouldn't do it....

I feel much better now about my situation. I have to refer to her as "Lady Freq18hz", in a deep Mr. Carson voice.

Apparently this is punishment for watching all eight seasons of 24 with me.

I think that it's like if a lot of people refer to something or someone in a certain way, it sticks. I don't assume there is any put-down intended.
This.

I may have posted a response to this silly thread before but...

It just occurred to me that "the wife" is the one allowing you to post here.

Ummm, no one says anything that is not a reflection of their life experience, their ideas, or their upbringing. The quote above is a null statement.

Men lie!! What they actually mean when they say, "The Wife" is the person I hate or the person I resent or the person I am afraid of or the person I hide from...

Okay, I call my wife "THE wife" not "the wife", big difference. My circle of friends have different terms for "THE wife" too. If their around, we call them "Corporate", "Boss", "HQ" and so on. One time on a fishing trip we took all our spouse out and we kept saying "Corporate", finally one of the wive spoke up, "Are you guys talking about us?!" hahaha our response, "Of course not! Its about work."

The reason why we do that is because we respect our wife. Its not disrespect. I dont know about other marriages but for me, I give every single penny to my wife. All my accounts, be bank, emails, phones, etc are hers to own. The only thing I ask for is for her to love me and let me buy guns (). Other then that I give her everything I make....not to mention she pays the bills too. haha. Anyways, thats my reason for using "THE wife".

If I called my wife "Sandy" I'd be in big trouble since her name is Martha.

Never thought of it as a derrogatory term or anything.. if ladies find it offensive I think guys should stop using the term.. but the way I see it, it's the same as, "the husband, the kids, the dog, the house," etc.. Not trying to refer to our wives as material objects lol..

"Wife" and she calls me "Husband" I mean no ill will by the term, but all the traditional others didn't fit.

"The wife" AKA "my better half" has no negative connotation. Because we males often feel that we have to put on a "macho" image and one of the rules of being a male is we cannot portray ourselves as nurturing. Males use this term "the wife" instead of "the love of my life," "my reason for living," and or "the apple of my eye" because some may feel that its not very masculine to speak that way it from of his friends about his wife. Speaking using non-masculine terms may and often results in ridicule from his friends.

*I know i am going to be ridiculed for saying this but i am secure in my masculinity.

I dunno. Used to be "the ol' lady" when I was riding...

Not sure what she thinks of it. I'll ask next time I'm walking by the kiitchen...

Did I just say that out loud?

Lol
Some of these are funny

when i say 'the wife' I don't use it in making a purchase to get out of something, I simply will not make a major purchase without the knowledge of my bride of 23 years.

I absolutely mean no ill will no matter what I refer to her as

I guess, at times, the term I use depends on the crowd, or person I'm speaking to
My daughter, I will if course say, your mother

But I think I'll start telling the kids, they belong to my first wife

Or maybe you know nothing about their relationship and its time to stop projecting your feelings/opinions onto others?

"The Wife" is my affectionate name, well, for my wife! Just like she refers to me as the "hoseband" no seriously she calls me her "hoseband"! I have no idea why, but what ever.

well, given BonnieB started this thread in the LADIES FORUM i'm betting she was really looking for the opinions of other female calgunners.......

most women do not like the "c" words, especially when it is directed at them. if his wife is fine with it, she is fine with it. that's between them. personally, i'm hoping he only does this in the throes of passionate night dancing between the sheets. if I heard him refer to her as a "c" word in public i'd think he was a "f" word moron.

but, hey, that's only one woman's opinion agreeing with another woman's opinion in the LADIES FORUM.

to expect that DBoulant wouldn't get a female perspective in the LADIES FORUM regarding his post was simply unrealistic.

welcome to the LADIES FORUM, zfields!

Note: anyone wanting to avoid the LADIES FORUM can certainly do so as the far right column of the New Posts area indicates the forum location for each new post.

Ha!

That said, my S/O and I use each other's names when we're talking about each other (thus far to my knowledge) in front of other people. Otherwise, usually say "hey love!" when talking to each other. It's reflex at this point.

Personally I've never used the term "wife", simply because I've never been married. I can see how it could be offensive, but I think this is because in the differences of how my G/F and I think. She thinks in the possessive, I think in the statement.

I brought up nothing about her being a woman. My comment was based on projecting her beliefs on others relationships. Wouldn't matter if a man or woman had said it.

This is the best thread on Calguns! Could it get any goofier? Fun, fun, fun...

It's cracking me up, this one little simple question has acquired a life of its own. So much more entertaining than endlessly telling well-meaning men not to choose a gun FOR their wives/GF/SO's.....

Do only safe sex. Never have sex with someone crazier than you are.
Don't marry or move in together before you're both at least 25.
Don't have children until you're married five years or at least age 30.
Put 10% of your salary into savings every month no matter how broke you are.
Don't ever screw around with the IRS.
Keep a handgun on your bedside table.
Don't smart-mouth judges, or cops who stop you on the road.

I NEVER understood this terminology. It makes her sound like a possession or inanimate object. 'The gun' OK. 'The car' OK...but not the 'The wife'. Very degrading.
