Default SD East County meet - P2K Range 3/28/13

Update- I may not be able to attend. Just meet and greet with your fellow attendees and do some shooting!

Join us at P2K Range (2082 Willow Glen Dr., El Cajon) on Thursday 3/28/13 from 6.30-9 pm for the first East County meet of 2013. We’re excited to team up with P2K and they have allowed us the use of their lounge/classroom to use a as a meet ‘n greet area for the evening. I will be there with some Calguns gear (all sales support CGSSA.org) and this is your opportunity to get out and shoot with your fellow Calgunners!

The fine print:
The range shares a driveway with another business. Just follow the signs up the hill (see map).

Range fees are $14/hour for the first shooter, and $10/hr for additional shooters or hours (more reason to pair up with another Calgunner if you’re solo- split the cost). You can also shoot trap $8.25/round or sporting clays $9/round on the outside shotgun range. They have regular, mandatory cease-fires on the entire indoor range to allow for targets to be changed on the rifle side. They have modified the process of changing rifle targets, so it shouldn’t take as long as it previously did.

The range abides by the “buddy rule” so if you plan to rent a gun, make sure you bring another person to shoot with you, or your firearm with you (which takes the place of bringing a friend).

Pistols- no holsters, no rapid fire
Rifles- anything below 50 BMG is ok. If you haven’t shot on their 100 yd range before, you will have to “pre-qualify” with your rifle on the 25 yard range before they allow you to shoot on the 100 yd range. You will shoot a 3 shot group on a 5”x4” square at 25 yards first. You do not need to qualify if you intend to shoot your rifle only on the 25 yard range.
Shotgun- Bird, Buck and Slugs ok
Ammo- Must be CA legal.

REMINDER: When you're there, your actions represent the entire Calguns community. We should always take responsibility for our actions, and treat their facility with the utmost respect.

P2K doesn’t allow reservations, so shooters will be getting lanes as they become available if there’s a wait. Please respond to this thread if you’re attending. Guests are welcome. No limit on our group, but parking does get a little scarce. I wasn’t planning on having food, but if enough people want to throw in on something, that is an option.

I see a lot of people on the SD roll call, so come out on Thursday and put some faces to those screen names! Hope to see you there!

I'm gonna try and make it. If anyone wants to split a long distance lane, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks for putting this together! Maybe on the next one we could work out a group rate on the range fees?

Neither P2k nor Iron Sights will do it, because they are so busy. We just have to appreciate the fact that we have indoor ranges that are operating and will accomodate us with some meeting space while we wait. I could have a boring meet'n greet at some restaurant or other venue, but we all just want to shoot! Besides, with ammo prices these days, the range fee is the least of your worries.

Unless you reload.

I'm going to try to make it. Those who are planning to shoot 50 or 100yd, don't forget to leave time to shoot your "proving targets" before moving to the other side of the range. There can be a bit of a wait to do this, so plan accordingly.

I'd be interested in this.

I'd also be interested in sharing a long distance lane. I've never shot past 25 yards with my AR and I'd like to try.

Do you have to pre-qualify that day or can you come in and do it previous to the meet?

You only need to do it once for each rifle and may do it ahead of time. Keep the special target with your rifle and present it on future trips.

Yes, find a NON BUSY time to qualify...be there early when they open some weekday. You only have to qualify once and you keep your proofing target and that becomes your "ticket" to the rifle range.

NOTE: you're proofing the GUN not the SHOOTER, so they note what the configuration/optics are on your gun and if you come back with different optics you will most likely have to reproof.

Yo! It was nice meeting at Iron-Sights. Add me to the list for this one too. P2K's got a nice shotgun range. I'll probably bring my shotty to bust some clays.

Any chance we can get the outdoor range for future events? We have in the past.

I have a question: do you, or anyone connected with your group, do any "new to guns" instructions/training? My sister lives in the Mission Mesa area, and has now entered the thought of buying a handgun. She may have shot a gun years back with her ex but I'm not sure of that.

Her and my niece are planning on going to the Del Mar gun show and have been warned by me that it will be packed. She intends on going around and handling a few guns to see how they fit in her hand.

I'll send her this thread to see if she might want to show up and meet a few people, but can anyone offer some other advice? I wish I wasn't 2500 miles or so, away, to help her out.

Are there any local gun shops you'd recommend?

Thanks.

FYI...P2K requires that every shooter do a safety test one time before they're allowed to shoot. They give you a safety card if you pass that you have to have every time you decide to shoot there.

Lots of shops out here, but stock is far and few. Both Iron Sights and American Shooting Center have trainers affiliated with them. There are a lot of certified range officers and instructors here on Calguns. I would hope one pms you. If not, I can get your in touch with some training.

I think P2K also offers range officers to help if you are new. There is a box on the sign in sheet where you can state that you need help.

I am planning on going if I can get out of work an hour early to pick up my gear and be there by 6:30. I am not an instructor but I have taken quite a few newbies shooting over the years and I have a nice variety of hand guns for people to try out.

Default I was there also

Had a good time, met quite a few people and let my girlfriend shoot my .223. She loved it!

Deerhunter 30.06: glad to help. It's way easier to site in a gun if you can see where you're hitting. 8-)

Besides, I was getting frustrated with all the fail to fires with factory Federal .223 rounds. 20 shots, 4 fail to fire but the pin strike on the primer looked exactly like the rounds that fired. Savage Axis bolt action rifle. Next time I will take different ammunition to see if the problem is the gun or the ammunition.

I was the one in the black Calguns hoodie with my best bud DeerHunter30.06. We REALLY appreciate you letting us use your lane to get qualified. Sorry it took me a sec to get my gear out. Didn't mean to burn up your time! We went right on over to the 100yd lane and got dialed in with the help of 1EasyTarget letting us use his scope as a spotting scope! We got to test some hand loads Deer crafted up and were hitting center @ 100 in no time.

Was great meeting you guys and hope to do it again very soon. That 7.62 AR looked great 82
