Default ...How come My holster repair thread doesn't show?

I spend time building threads like that as a CGunner public announcement for the DIY'ers.

Note.. the distinction, between showing my thread, or go search. The search function isn't the greatest here, but thats besides the point.

Now -- would you say that is your best articulate answer? Seriously, you did not provide an answer!

If the minions would like me to contribute -- lets be honest.

Well little kevvy here's how it goes:
After I read your original post, I clicked on your name and selected "find all posts" this lead me to the post about holster repair. I then selected that threads URL, copied it and hot linked it in my original reply that said in short "This one?"

Now I have, in the past, been accused of being a bit brief, almost Coolidge-esque, and I can understand your confusion at my brevity. What I was trying to ask you in my own convoluted way was this "Is this the post that you are referring to, that you can't seem to find when you search for it." I just wanted to clarify that this was indeed the post in question.

So anyway here's the oh so simple search solution. I went to the calguns home page, found the search thing, typed in "holster repair" and your thread was at the top of the search results! And by the way, you are correct the search here is a bit wonky but I think it's actually been improved since the early days. As for your snarky little reply all I can say is whatever dude.

You still didn't answer why my thread is not showing on the forum, yep, stunning reply. Perhaps you could provide a bit more technical analysis.

sure, let's be honest,

get off your high horse.. minions?! really?!

sniper dude gave you a perfectly clear and concise answer.. what are you 12?

it's perfectly ok to admit you don't know how to use this forum without criticizing someone trying to help you.. good luck with that attitude.

and as for your holster repair thread.. not exactly the sewing modification revelation of the century

could be why there are no replies

Perhaps you could explain why it is you think it is not showing.

I looked - at the time, your holster repair thread was about 6 threads below this one. It's 8 as I post this.

Try resetting the show threads at the bottom of the page from the default of "from last day" to a longer period of time.

It was a simple OTC fix, I didn't perfect fission and I didn't lose any sleep over the reply counter. Good to see you are paying attention.

If I knew I wouldn't be asking. I'm not a Mod, I don't run the site, I didn't memorize The Charter -- that's why I asked. This is the forum link that comes up..

What part am I missing?

Most helpful yet, thanks P5, I'll try it.

With the link you post, I see it immediately; I'm not able to understand why you do not.

Now, it is possible that your default forum setting is wrong - but you would have had to actively changed it. Usually, it's 'last two weeks', and your original thread is within that boundary - that was 3/1, this is 3/6.

Well I tried to use big words and stuff, and I really did try and put a in there to help convey some joviality to my post but the board was totally wonky that night and then it crashed. Anyway welcome to calguns! Try the Off Topic sub forum, I here hear it's lots of fun in there!

You are pretty much acting like a douche. Moving on.

So here's the why:

Each forum has it's own default display settings, included in these settings is a time frame to cutoff (From display only) old threads. Yours is likely set to "forum default" and therefor some areas of the forum have a very limited amount of threads displayed. For example, if a forum is set to show only the last days worth of threads (This includes threads with a reply from the current day) it will only show you the last day's worth of activity. This means that in a smaller subforum that already has pretty low traffic, you may only display a handful of threads from the last day, or whatever duration the subforum is set to. It is also entirely possible that you have your settings set at 1 month, 2 months etc, and your thread could simply be past that point and therefor not showing.

The Fix:

It has been mentioned already in this thread that you can change the display settings of a specific forum or subforum by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and changing the setting. This is a temporary fix and will reset back to default when you reload the page or navigate away and then return.

To permanently change ALL forums go to User CP (Link just under the Private messages button under your name) and go to Edit Options. From there scroll down until you find the box labeled "Default thread age cut off" and change it to "Show all threads". This will override the defaults and permanently change the problem you were having. The other method is temporary and should be used if you want to keep defaults (Because it does keep things cleaner) but just need to view old posts for a brief time. Here is the setting you are looking for:

I can think of two CG'ers that will follow the OP where ever he goes.

Douche or not, if I had gotten a technical answer when I asked, all this drama could have been prevented. I didn't know where the setting switch was so it's unlikely I reset it. Pretty damn simple.

Problem solved, thanks Librarian.
