The "best" way? use a gunsmith. =D Second best way? A hacksaw and one of these: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/684...00-312-330-366

I used a hacksaw, a file and a right angle tool. 3 days with the file, sitting in front of the TV. file file file file test. file file file file test. file file file file test. Then use 100 grit+ sandpaper to take off the tool marks and a brass screw head in a power drill to complete the crown. So not the way you're supposed to do it, but it worked for me.

Noticed this one on a woodworking forum I visit. The woodworker carved the stock to match the pattern engraved by a previous owner.

The story and additional photos are here.

Here's a project I just finished
My 10 round SHTF rifle.
It's a 1938 Tula Mosin Nagant retrofitted with an Archangel 10 round magazine.

Here's a picture of mine. I think it was probably done in the 1950's or so. It's the only picture I have of it, just trying to decide what to do with it. I'm not sure if the barrel was cut down or not and still have to see if it's ok to shoot. It's missing the original butt stock plate. It's a 1923 Tula and when they installed the rear "V" sight they drilled and taped right over the year marketing. Trying to figure out how to either mount an original rear sight or an aftermarket or I just might sell it and buy an all original one.

Dan if you end up in the Sac area I can check headspace on it for you. I was gifted a couple of sporters similar to yours. They were done in the sixties. One of them is a great shooter and an awesome truck gun. Looks like someone went the extra mile and put some nice irons on yours. Shoot it for groups, who knows it could be a diamond in the rough.

BTW it looks like the original sight base has been milled off. So you might be stuck with the sights you have now. I also have an extra buttplate you can have. Let me know if you can pay a visit.

why keep the rear sight when there is no front sight? Have noticed this on a few of them, cut down barrel with rear sight still mounted.

I think some people just dont think about it. you can use it as a rudimentary aiming device if the optic should fail; it actually works quite well for that.

If you look at my pics above, mine is still on. I have since removed it and duracoated the bolt handle black....
