It means Sig, Para and Taurus need to pay their $200/model to keep each on the Handgun Roster.

So basically they are paying the state to allow them to sell them?

What exactly is the $200-per firearm model for? What does the state of California do with that $200?

It's a required-by-law bribe, as far as I can tell.

The initial $200 is sort of understandable, if you can stomach the idea of testing and listing in the first place.

(a) Pursuant to Penal Code section 32015, subdivision (b) the DOJ shall recover the full costs of creating and maintaining the Roster of Certified Handguns by collecting fees from manufacturers/importers of or other parties responsible for handgun models that are listed on the Roster of Certified Handguns.
so the $$ goes to DOJ, presumably to Firearms.

It 'costs' them $200 to record the receipt of the check the same way it 'costs' a hospital $100 to hang a bag of neutral saline for IV administration.

With all the money they are making.. It will not be a problem for them.. I hope there will be more gun makers bringing more gun models in the state...

^^^ Especially when they have to pay the fee for EACH variant of the same gun. Look at the Taurus PT92 and all the variations. It's the same gun, but because it has different grips, has gold accents, etc. they have to pay the fee again. Utter horse hockey!!

What would happen if all of the manufacturers stopped paying to have their guns listed on the "safe" roster, and it eventually dried up leaving no guns available for purchase?

Wouldn't that strengthen the lawsuits already in play?

Christ, I must be getting old. I still remeber when they enacted this idiotic law (along with a bunch of others) back in, What? 2000? Originally billed as a means of keeping "saturday night specials" off the streets, as far as I could ever tell, all it did was drive up the prices of handguns in Ca and limit the selection at the local gun store.

I assume you are talking about the gun makers profits... If by your rational why is the Glock Gen 4, Springfield XDm or XDs and HK45 not on the Roster? The MFG don't really care to pay 200 bucks for every make model and color. So we get screwed!

Lets take a look at a Springfield XD 5" model. Springfield has to pay 200 bucks for:
XD9 - Black
XD40 - Black
XD45 - Black

XD9 - Bi-tone
XD40 - Bi-tone
XD45 - Bi-tone

XD9 - Tan
XD40 - Tan
XD45 - Tan

XD9 - Green
XD40 - Green
XD45 - Green

That is just for 5", they would have to submit all colors in 4.25" and 3.8" plus $200/model and color See how it gets ridiculous?

Not sure about the XDm or HK45, but as I recall the XDs and definitely the Glock gen4 cannot be put on the roster as they need loaded chamber indicators and magazine disconnects. Guns currently on the roster without those features were put on the roster before the requirements were changed.

They'd also have to send in 3 handguns for each one. So that's $2400 in fees, plus roughly $18,000 in guns, just to be "allowed" to sell their 5" models in CA. Multiply by 3 to include 4" and 3" models, and you're at $60k. Without the M or S models. I don't understand why this extortion is considered legal. Perhaps I never will.

I wonder if the police model firearms (Glocks, etc.) get distributed to various departments or if they sit in Feinswine's closet collecting dust.

I'll bet good money that nearly all those sigs won't get renewed.

The 239 two-tones have been discontinued for awhile, as well as the two-tone 226 and 229's. Since they no longer make a non-railed models. Same goes for their DAK non-railed. Even the stainless 226 are gone.

Only one with a shot is the 239 9mm dak since they still make those.
