USMCCHET9296: Your scoring on the 50yd Iron Target is incorrect. The center bull is 12 points, your score is 121.

Do you know about the 6 o'clock hold for using iron sights? If not its basically that you zero your sight with the bottom of the target sitting on the top of the front sight. You might find that sight picture is easier with iron sights expecially on a black bullseye.

Which 452 model do you have? Not bad for the first time out. Bottom let bull looks really good, maybe some more practice and they will all be that good. I see that you used CCI Mini-Mags, some SK Std + or Wolf Match Target will most likely tighten up those groups. My UltraLux loves that ammo.

Yep, I'm holding at 6 o'clock. My 'excuse' is poor eyesight as I need reading glasses. Focusing on the front sight causes the rear sight to ghost and it's hard to pick out the top of the notch. I've read that the J&P peep sight may be a solution.

I lucked into a 452FS from another Calgunner. I'm real happy with her. I've got some Wolf on the way so look for tighter groups in future matches.

Here are a few rifle 25 Yard iron sight targets. I need to slow down and spend some more practicing with iron sights. The red dot has spoiled me.

Marlin Glenfield Model 25 shot with CCI Short CB

Ruger 10/22 "Appleseed" shot with CCI MiniMags

This should have been much better, I know what I can do with this rifle on a good day.

OK guys I am running thru the targets to record the scores and quadruple checking everything. Much more to it this month than ever before so be a little patient. Also I ask that all of you check the final results for any errors that I may have made. We had 8 shooters and over 25 targets this month so a pretty good turn out. Hope we see all you guys and hopefully more in March. (thank God for spreadsheets).

I will have the March match up sometime tomorrow. I will be posting some new, hopefully better targets for the pistol matches (easier to see the center I hope). Any suggestions from the pistola guys on targets will be graciously accepted as I'm not a pistol shooter and I want to make the targets as usable as possible.

108 with 8 points for touches.

Blood was spilled and it was my blood...So what size shirt was that?

The upper bull in the 15yd Bench target appears to have only 4 shots touching. As there are only 5 shots at the bull it is only possible to have 5 bonus points. I reduced your score from 108 to 106 on this target. Glad to see you made the match.

Default March Rimfire Match 2013

We will continue to award PRIZES (T-Shirts) for the best scores on three targets. I will continue to track scores for the overall best shooter for the year: For information on this process see the first post of the February 2013 Rimfire Match. There was a good turnout last month and hope to see even more shooters this month.

PLEASE BE SURE TO MARK YOUR TARGETS WITH: Distance shot, Which target (irons, scope, bench, pistol, rifle) and score. Write BIG so us Coordinators with old eyes can read it. Thanks!!!!

FEBRUARY Winners (Good to see more participation and some NEW WINNERS)

Congratulations to the Winners and all the Shooters for Participating

25 yard Irons: Tie between USMCCHET9296 and Izzy43

50 yard Irons: USMCCHET9296

100 yard Irons (Prize Target): Izzy43

15 yard Pistol Rest: 10Xhobby

15 yard Pistol Offhand (Prize Target): 10Xhobby

25 yard Pistol Rest: 10Xhobby

50 yard Scope (Prize Target): Covingtonhouse

100 yard Scope: Tie between Covingtonhouse and Izzy43

Prize for FredoSD's Belt: This was a tight match between 10Xhobby, LazyMe and Covingtonhouse. In the end while LazyMe and 10Xhobby shot a perfect 100 on their targets, 10Xhobby edged out LazyMe with bonus points. A big THANKS to FredoSD for offering this prize.

Covingtonhouse and 10Xhobby need to PM Penny's Dad with their contact info to receive their Calguns/CGSSA T-shirt. 10Xhobby should contact FredoSD for the Belt Prize.

March Targets!!

Download the targets and print on 8.5 x11 inches paper. Shoot and score your target, take a picture of the target or scan it (your choice) and upload to this thread. Most folks use a web site such as “Flickr.com” and then link to the picture of the target.

25 Yard Irons: See attachment below. This will be a PRIZE TARGET.
Take 3 shots at each target for a total of 12 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

50 Yard Irons: See attachments below. There are 3 targets to choose from. All are the same except the 3 rings in the center are different colors. Take 5 shots on each target for a total of 10 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

100 Yard Irons: See attachment below. There are 2 targets to choose from. Both are the same except the 3 rings in the center are different colors. The idea is to give a better sight picture to iron sight and pistol shooters. Take 5 shots on the target. Score your target as indicated on the target.

50 Yards Scoped: See attachment below. Take 5 shots at each bullseye, center is 10 points.

100 Yard Scoped: See Attachment. This will be a PRIZE TARGET. Take 5 shots, the center X is 12 points.

15 yard Pistol Target, Iron Sights or Red Dot. No Magnified Optics.
Use the 50 yd Iron Sight Target: See Attachment
Take 10 shots at the target (5 shots at each bullseye) . Score your target as indicated on the target. Target may be shot off hand or from a bench rest. Off hand shooters will compete separately from bench rest shooters.

25 yard Pistol Target, Open Class. Use any optics you want.
Use the 100 yd Iron Sight Target: See Attachment
Take 10 shots at the target. Score your target as indicated on the target. Target may be shot off hand or from a bench rest. Off hand shooters will compete separately from bench rest shooters. The Offhand 25yd Target will be a PRIZE TARGET.

Additional targets are in the second post.

There is an additional attachment file:Monthly Match Score Tracking.PDF This is just to inform all of how I am awarding points and tracking the total yearly score for each shooter. In the case where two shooters tie on a target I combine the 1st and 2nd place points and award each shooter half of those points. I hope the chart is self explanatory. PM me if you have questions.

For each target indicate your total score and if not already indicated on the target note the distance shot and what type of sights. Ex: Score =xxx, Iron Sights, Scope, Red Dot. No fair shooting iron sight targets with a scope for score. You may also indicate what rifle and ammo was used.

Rules:

This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the Rifle/Pistol can be locked down is verboten. There is no limit to the number of targets that can be shot, post the best or post them all.

Bonus Points

Here is how it will work. This is only on targets that have multiple shots on one target. We shoot the targets as normal and add up the scores like normal. The twist is we shoot for groups as well. For example, if we are shooting 5 shots on each target. If none of the 5 bullet holes are touching you get no bonus points. If two are touching you get 2 bonus points. If three are touching you get 3 bonus points on up to a maximum of 5 bonus points for each target. You only get bonus points for one group of touching holes.

Finally for any questions just drop me a PM and I'll get right back to you. Feel free to also PM me with feedback/complaints/suggestions/ or errors I make, etc... These matches are based on “Gentlemen's/Ladie's Honor” so go shoot and have fun.

Do I detect some friendships forming here? I think its just great that you guys are having some fun with this and hope you all (and others) continue to shoot. Any recommendations out there for an optic for my S&W 22A, pistola irons sights are just too difficult for me (old eyes)? I'll never be at the level of you pistola shooters but I would like to get involved and try my hand at it.

This is not a lot of work for me, a few hours each month and I really enjoy putting the matches together. Any recommendations on targets are welcomed.

I would also to thank FredoSD of "Star Leather" for donating the custom leather belt. It will make a great addition to the new 1911 holster and mag carriers he is already crafting for me. THANK YOU

Yeah Izzy, Tim is very competitive and a great shooter, he really gives me a run for the money and we have a lot of fun with it.
As far as a red dot for your 22a (I have one myself) Tasco pdp3 or a Bushnell just make sure it will be bright enough for outdoor use.

Gee thanks...I can give you a workout on the bench rest but off-hand goes hands-down to you. I can see how you earned that lovely Kimber of yours.

And yes, if anyone is wondering, he does shoot at the stated distance for the match, not a few feet away. Pisses me off every time.

Really starting to look forward to this and it's only my 3rd month. Thank you so much for putting this together. Now to get some more local people together so we can have a "live" competition! I saw in the picture thread that at least one of you lives in my old stomping grounds (Shingle Springs), what I wouldn't give to be able to get back home. . Good luck everyone, and happy shooting this month!

Yeah that's where I go. It's only about 10 minutes from my house and the staff are great people. I also occasionally shoot at Sun Mountain and the Visalia Sportsman's range, but all of the outdoor ranges are almost an hours drive, so we don't go very often.

To all who are now and have in the past, run this monthly match, I say thanks. This is a fun way to add some focus to a range session, and now that we have the opportunity to win a prize too... that makes it even more entertaining. I don't really shoot to be competitive except with myself, and this is a laid-back no pressure way for one to practice and get better amongst some other like minded folks

I lived off of Beaver Pond Road. Did you go to Latrobe or Millers Hill? I had a total graduating 8th grade class of 8.

I miss being a kid running around with a pellet gun and nothing else to do but follow the crik until the sun started to go down and then you realized Mom was going to be mad. Like little house on the prairie.

I went to Rescue elementary, marina jr high, ponderosa high. Graduating classes weren't quite as small as yours.

Looks like we were just a little north and east of you. Grew up in CP, my parents now live in SS off Meder Rd. we used to tear up the green belt on our bmx bikes until dark until they tore it out to build apartments. All my buddies and I had wild dreams f sabotaging the construction equipment to stop them - looking back, I am REALLY glad we never became part of the criminal justice system.

Thank you for running this competition. It gives me something to go to the range. Plus a little competition is a lot of fun.

Yikes! You have set the bar for that target. Excellent shooting. I may have to try some of that Lapua Midas in my BTVS. Its so darn picky with ammo, loves Wolf MT and hates Lapua Center-X, go figure. The matches are fun, good learning tool and I enjoy shooting them and organizing them. Someting for this old retired guy to do to stay out of trouble.

It really weird. My mark 2 likes wolf match and lapua but won't group with eley. Like 1 1/2" on groups of 3. I have quite a bit of eley match/ team and I'm going to keep trying it, but for expensive ammo I expected more.
