Default Is it my rings or my base? (10/22)

Got a standard 10/22 carbine, and a cheap tasco scope and even cheaper weaver rings to mount on it. The scope rings won't tighten on the included Ruger scope base. there's still some side to side and front to rear play, no matter how much I tighten the rings down.

Are my rings junk, or might the base be out of spec?

Thanks.

Take a good look at the rings where it meets the rail... Some scope mounts do not mate up with the rail since the rail's 'indentations' for the cross bar on the rings are not deep enough.

I had this issue with some cheap scope rings, then got some specific ones from
My LGS and now I'm GTG.

Might be the scope base. Some come with the 3/8 base which may not work with the rings you have.

Yeah, the earlier Ruger bases were rimfire ring compatible only( narrower) not the wider bite Weaver style for the wider Weaver rail types like I believe the newer Ruger bases will take. Actually I believe they'll take both. Inside groove or outside grip.
Easy fix! Just pick up an inexpensive set of rimfire/air rifle type rings ...available everywhere!
Hope this helps!

My .22 originally had a dovetail I mounted to the receiver. Scope Rings mounted to the dovetail etc. Basically 5 pieces, mine was junk including the tasco it came with. Loosened all the time. I bought a DNZ medium one piece mount & have been happy & maintenance free ever since!

Default Power custom

Ruger 10/22 is a fine rifle ,I have 4 , I has a Power Custom scope base that I bought from Midway . It has a set of 1.000 rings on a full size scope. The 2 other has Weaver brand scope bases from gun stores , Bass pro had one. Weave 1 inch rings . Use lock tight. The last has Williams Peep sight with a .560 height orange bead sight. The weaver type rings come in differant heights. With this type of mount your scope wont move. I do not have any 30mm rings just the 1 inch type.

Ditch the factory base. Don't know why they (Ruger) still makes/provides that junk.

Here's the original Ruger, the upgraded OEM Ruger which accepts both .22 rings and Weaver style and the one I use on all my 1022's which is the previously referenced Power Custom. You won't regret buying the Power Custom!
The rings are mounted through one of many slots for a positive fit.

Thanks guys, I ordered a cheap set of Leupold rifleman rings and they mount up to the Ruger base rock solid.
