Here is this week's Kickstarter update:

It’s been one week since we launched this campaign and we want to thank each of you for your early support. The fact that each of you believes in what we are doing is more important than your donations, but we need your pledges and more to complete this film.

Entering into the post-production process for me is a love-hate proposition. On one hand it means we’re closing in on a finished product and on the other, it means hours of writing, debating with Anita and the voices in my head to hammer out a script for the editor to begin his work. I am proud to tell you that we have crafted a solid story arc and are now combing the transcripts to find those interview bites that will drive our film. History, laws, engineering, stories of oppression, individual triumph and the roots of American culture all mixed up in a recipe of visuals and sounds to convey one of the most important civil rights we have – the right to bear arms.

A couple of weeks ago, I was having dinner with some friends at the SHOT show. One of them turned to me while we were eating and said that I was either a genius or damned lucky to have this film nearly completed. Well, I don’t think of myself as a genius, and I know many who would agree with that statement, but I do feel incredibly lucky to be able to bring this story, our story, to the screen when it needs to be seen the most. With a little more luck and your support, we’ll deliver this film in 60 days.

To make this deadline, I need to ask for your continued help. Please share the link to Kickstarter campaign with your friends and ask them to join us to make this film a reality.

http://kck.st/VZmXBM

Thank you,

Kris

Wow! Our Kickstarter campaign had a $6,670 rally yesterday. That puts us just shy of $15,000 and 20% of our goal with 15 days to go.

This is the week to push forward to our target. Please let your friends and family know that we need their support to complete this important film.

Share the link - http://kck.st/VZmXBM

Thank you,

Kris

I didn’t read through all 7 pages of this so sorry if this is a duplicate question..I’m just wondering what happens if you don’t meet the goal in the next two weeks? I chipped in on the current goal and would like to see you finish this by march.

Thanks

Just contributed $50 w/o a reward. I would like to do more and get some swag but I can't right now so I just gave the funds that I can spare.

If things loosen up for me then more contribution will be coming.

We will continue to work on it until funding becomes available.

At issue here is getting it done and out there while the debates continue in Congress and at the state level. Sooner is better. That why we're pushing hard on the funding and trying to finish the film this month.

We had over 900 individual donors for the last campaign and there are over 36,000 active members currently here on CalGuns. We can easily hit our number if we can just motivate our friends to join us.

Thanks,

Kris

900? That's it?? I'm responsible for convincing 4 of those individuals to donate, and I don't even know that many non-anti-gun people. Sad, I thought there were many more than that.

I'm in for another $100, no "reward."

Enough said. I'll pitch in again this Friday.

Come on calgunners. If all of us cough up 2 bucks its a done deal. We don't want this coming out late. Any little bit helps and might motivate others to help get this done.

Kickstarter Update

T Minus 10 Days

Time to roll up our sleeves and start a serious push to get this campaign funded.

We need to raise $50,000 over the next ten days. Impossible? No. We had over 900 backers on our first campaign and we've had only a little over 200 so far participate in this campaign. So, if all of the original backers will kick in, along with the new donors that have joined us, we will easily reach our goal. But we need all of you to spread the word to your friends and hit that "BACK THIS PROJECT" button.

Please, help us finish this very important film. http://kck.st/VZmXBM

Thank you,

Kris

This is a post I made in another thread about an experience I had at work recently.

Quote:
I think one of our biggest problem now is public perception. The media is bombarding the public with the "assault weapon" term. The media is leading the general public to believe the AR 15's are some how more powerful than they any other semi auto .223 rifle.

I was talking with a very pro gun women the other day at work. She is highly supportive of the second amendment and has first hand experience in defending herself when she shot and killed an intruder.

During our conversation she was voicing her concern that she may be disarmed by the new laws. She said that we should not have assault weapons though. She said, no one hunts with AR 15's. I told her that I did, and in fact hunted quite often with mine. I told her I hunted coyotes and deer. Wide eyed she said, doesn't it blow the deer apart? I laughed and said no. It is actually a very small caliber for deer and I have to be very accurate to kill deer with it. She then asked how that could be when I "sprayed" the deer with all the bullets when I pulled the trigger. I had to explain that the gun is semi automatic and fired only one round with each pull of the trigger.

After We talked for a while she explained that she had been misled by the news because the news was telling her that these guns shoot huge bullets that blow things apart in full automatic fire.

This is my point. If someone who is extremely pro gun, supports the second amendment, is concerned about being disarmed and unable to protect herself and has actually used her firearm to defend herself, is totally misled by the bias in the media. Then what chance does the average, non gun owning person have of getting the correct information to come to a rational decision on the issue.

We need to somehow come up with a national education campaign to educate and get the facts out. We need to create "commercials" showing simple to understand examples comparing weapons so the public can be correctly informed. We need to bombard the airways with examples of the lives saved by the responsible ownership and use of firearms.

Default Why Should I? Assaulted II Update

Last night I received a comment stating, ďI already donated to the first campaign. Still not sure why I need to donate again?Ē This is a fair question that Iím sure many of you have, so I will use my answer as todayís update.

Before I start with my answer, I want to thank each of you for your donations. Each of you made it possible for us to conduct 55 interviews, capture some great b-roll and do the research that will make Assaulted a meaningful documentary and one that we hope will change minds and sway opinions when it comes to the 2nd Amendment.

..best laid plans of mice and men.

Last fall when we held the first Kickstarter, gun control and assault weapons were mostly the subjects left for the court of appeals. California gun owners with the help of CalGuns Foundation, SAF and other state gun associations successfully stopped SB249, a bill that would have made Bullet Button equipped AR-15s and AK-47s illegal in the golden state. It was a cautious victory but one, combined with court successes across the country, seemed to show positive progress on the ability to exercise our 2nd Amendment right. We therefore had an open completion date on the project.

Then all hell broke loose.

Obama was reelected and suddenly the UN Small Arms Treaty was back on the negotiating table and the possibilities of end runs around the 2nd Amendment. This bad news was followed by the horrific news of Newtown and the snowball of executive and legislative action that now has gun owners facing 31 gun control bills in congress and many more across the 50 states.

Taking the argument out of the courtroom and into the theaters.

All of this has put an incredible amount of pressure on us to get this film completed and into theaters. We need to triple the size of the post team to finish the film in early March. Combine these challenges with the fact that our efforts to secure an underwriter to cover the finishing costs have been unsuccessful, forced us to return to Kickstarter because we no longer have the luxury of time. The gun control debate is now front-and-center in American media and the need to complete our film has grown exponentially.

Thank you, again.

Weíre here asking for your help again, whether itís a donation or encouraging your friends to join us. If you feel that you have given enough to our project, know that you have helped us immensely with your funding and we appreciate it. If the current ammo shortage has left you with a few extra dollars in your pocket, consider donating it to the film. You may not be able to blow holes into a target this weekend, but you will be helping us blow holes in the arguments that are being used to restrict your 2nd Amendment rights.

Sincerely,

Kris
