Default Bi-Pod for Marlin 795 Studs

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a bi-pod I can mount onto swivel studs. I'd prefer one that I can use 1.25" sling with (USGI style) and one that can fold (spring loaded isnt needed).

I'm new to rifles and bi-pods, so a little confused on how to set this up with anything other than the studs that are molded into the fore grip and butt stock of my Marlin.

Any assistance? prefer amazon as the retailer, have a gift card.

Harris ultralight bipods attach to sling swivel studs. They are not light, I don't use them with a sling, but I found this picture that shows it will work with a sling

How do I know if it attaches to studs? Not sure what terms to search for.

Id prefer something more on the light side, but sturdy and well built

Hmmm,

This one even says it has stud attachment:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Says so in the description. Can you recommend a Harris or Caldwell? I'd like 6"-9" i think, but will deal.

I'm trying to stay under $50 too.

It can. It comes with an adapter that attaches via the sling stud. You can still use a sling swivel with the adapter.

Problem is this wont work with the new molded in sling studs that 795 are now coming with. It is reported that the studs are recessed in so few adapters will work with them.

IMO Drill a hole and put a real steel stud on and use that.

I use this one:
http://www.amazon.com/UTG-TACTICAL-A...dp/B001BR4VME/
But I use a stock with real sling studs...

UTG makes an adapter that connects to the stud and gives you a very small picatinny rail. I have one of these on a Marlin 60 that has that butt-ugly ATI druganov looking plastic stock (which my son ooohed and ahhhed over until I got it.) It does connect, as long as you don't mind not being able to tighten it up. I've got several pieces of black foam rubber between the bottom of the adapter and that stock to help with the looseness. It helps, but I'm not terribly impressed.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't.

Hope this helps...

Hey Chaos,

Suggest some studs? I'm considering getting these swivels http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

So I can take the bi-pod off and still use a sling. Isn't there a set out there that comes with studs?

Most sling studs are screw style for wood stocks.

What you need is a nut and bolt style

Something like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Techn...d_sim_sbs_sg_1

Don't worry about buying the stud and the swivel together they are universal

How hard is it to install those?

Yeah, that second UTG one looks like it relies on some sort of goofy swivel stud extension or something according to the images and notes.

Just get a 6"-9" caldwell bipod. If you want one that pivots, get one that pivots.

The first one linked didn't. At any rate, he's got options and it's really not that big of a deal to just buy something that works right instead of relying on some hokey adapters.

You drill a hole that is hopefully centered, and thread the nut onto the end then tighten it down.

Okay I'll go with this instead I think:

http://www.amazon.com/Caldwell-XLA-B...9511962&sr=1-4

Last question, I can't tell if this allows a sling as well, any other suggestions of a caldwell similarly priced that allows sling and attaches to a swivel stud?

It looks like it has a spot to attach swivels by the knob in the front.

Yeah, those two tabs sitting behind that thumb screw in the middle are where you can attach a sling swivel.

I'll actually put a vote in for that UTG bipod there. I've got one of those on my 10/22 and it's pretty good. I'd like a little more height, but it works quite well, it's somewhat adjustable for windage, and it attaches through a sling swivel. (I used the Winchester screw-in swivels from Wal-Mart on mine. Spare stock, not the nice shiny original one from 1978.)

It's one of - if not perhaps the - only UTG products for which I will give a thorough recommendation. I really like mine a lot.

Gotta read the description.

Quote:
It features a dual mounting system, a tactical low profile for added versatility, and both a Picatinny mounting deck and a swivel stud mount.
It might look hokey but it's not a bad system and its really solid..
