Default My Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec Update

Hey guys and Girls. I havent posted here at CG for a while. Took a short brake from guns while building my car and moving to WA to get back into school. Building wooden boats now
Anyways I wanted to share some fun stuff involving my Springfield Mil-Spec 1911. I absolutely LOVE this pistol. Sadly the slide keeps getting scratched up. Almost anything like a ring or a button on a holster will take the black parkerized finish right off. I guess I could have sent it back to get fixed, but why get the same finish that will just come off again? So I took the slide off the pistol, removed the firing pin and ejector, and sent it to Renewed Finishes for some Powder coating in mat OD green. Dave and his team at RF do great powder coating work and have done REALLY great jobs on lots of car parts so I figured I'd give them my slide to work on as well. I am really excited to get it back.
Well you all know what a 1911 looks like but what the hell. This is a before shot from a few months ago. Its seen a bit more actions sins I took this picture.

And here is the slide all cleaned up at the powder coaters.

I will update in a few days when I get some pictures from Dave of the finished product, and later on some pictures of the slide all put back together with the frame.

Hey! Bonus shot! Name the pistols I got to shoot last weekend.

Dang! That thing looked great! Looking forward to how it turns out. Hoping to get a barebones Springfield or Rock Island/Armscor to hopefully participate in SASS "Wild Bunch".

Thanks guys. I am also looking to get a set of VZ grips for this pistol, but I want to wait till I see what the rest of the gun looks like before I decide on the grips.

right on... I just bought my first and second 1911 and I am trying decide on grips... The one I have in my possession is a stainless SA Loaded Target and the other is a tactical compact Rock Island Armory which I DROS this weekend... Those all brown grips are totally ugly. I am so much in love with the stock cocobolo grips on the SA... they look super nice...

I'm not sure if I will add VZ's to my G.I. but most definitely on any more modern looking 1911.

(Thanks for the bump on my listing by the way Not too many cowboys on Calguns, it seems.)

Wow they put cocobolo on the SA 1911! Thats some cool wood! I was going to turn some shift knobs out of cocobolo on the lathe at school.

Well I can see your point. You know that VZ makes some run of the mill double diamond pattern grips like the stock 1911 grips as well right? Its nice to have some different colors to choose from some times.
I dont really want to mess with my Mil-Spec to much. I really enjoy the way it shoots as is. So I only really plan on doing some cosmetic bull **** on the Mil-Spec

So I got a few pictures of the powder coated slide. Looks good. Its a few shades dark in real life then in the pictures below. Florescent lights and all. I will take some better pictures when I get it in the mail. The engraving got a bit berried under the paint. Doesn't bother me much. I guess I could always have some one redo the engraving at a later date.

Just got my 1911 put back together. I had to clean a very small amount of powder coat off of the slide so that it would slide ll the way back, but besides that the powder is perfect. There really was no way Dave at RF could have masked that off. I am super happy with it. I am not very happy with these pictures as the lights all weird and the red back ground doesnt help anything, but I cut my right thumb on a band saw today nice and deep and moving stuff around kinda hurts a bit...
Ones I put a few round through through the pistol the rest of the paint on the slide will wear its self in nicely I think. I know it did with the parkerization.

I was going to put up a trade offer for my new CZ SP-01 for a SA 1911-A1. They are sexy.

If my LGS can't get another one in, I might opt to SSE the Auto Ordnance 1911-A1.

Thanks for the link buddy!
I am going to try and get a better picture of the pistol tomorrow with some natural day light instead of the **** lighting in my house. Hopefully it will capture the color of the slide better. The first pictures I took make it look horrible.
