Default Gifting my best friends son a .22?

Ok so I have a rifle I bought a year or so ago I would like to gift to my best friends son.i have several and he loves to shoot it when we go out.he is 13 and not sure how to go about this.

is that the only way?my BF lives across the country but i am very close to his son here in ca.when i need a shooting buddy hes the man.

Who does the boy live with? Mom? Then PPT to her, she can give it to him. You can not give it directly to a minor. It has to be from someone who can do an interfamily transfer to him.
