I am looking for an open area safe and legal to shoot near Roseville. Either off of hwy 80 or 65. Within 50 miles if possible. Thanks!

That would be great information for me also.

If you want a good range where you have to pay, Lincoln Rifle Club is great. It is off Highway 65 just outside of downtown. It is only $10 to shoot for non members.

Might have to visit it although I'm not really a range kind of guy. I'd rather find a good safe area on BLM or private land to shoot.

Spenceville range behind Beale. Less than 50 miles. Free and open to the public. No rangemaster. Enter at own risk.

Enter at own risk? Is it that busy? I would go on a weekday VS weekend. But if there are crowds, I would rather pass. Too many dumb-ace people can get you shot. Especially if not supervised.

oroville clay pits will take you about 15/20 min more than spenceville , much nicer with a restroom, there are some issues during the weekends ,during the week its really nice most of the time and you can go out to 550 plus yards

Think BLM or National Forest.

Yep, think you are right. I think I will call BLM and pick up one or two of their maps that shows public land. I think the maps are $4 for each specific area. I might get the Truckee area and also the Yuba area since they are both fairly close to me.

Weekends are brutally busy, and usually filled with idiots and gangbanging wannabees. Oh wait, idiots and gangbanging wannabees are redundant... well anyway ... early morning weekdays are cool. Just keep an eye out for idiotabees, and go with a partner, because a second set of eyes on your stuff when you go downrange is always prudent.

All you really need to do, is go up into the forrest, find a dirt rd, find a place that is open enough to suit your needs while being safe to others. Ive been doing such for the last 20 yrs, and never had an issue.

Sounds easy but most dirt roads lead to someone's property. I don't want to piss anyone off. I'd like to go somewhere that I can continually return to for practice.

There are a few places off HWY 50 above Ice House. Definitely get a map for that area. Just watch out for 4x4/rock crawlers/dirt bikers. You have to find a nice safe spot to shoot.

Spenceville, I hear, is nutty on the weekends. Plus, the dirt road that leads to the shooting area can be brutal to your vehicle. A friend had picked up nails in two of his tires just getting to it. Too many silly people there.

From the posts about Spencerville, I'd rather take a walk in the woods in the snow. Much safer and no damage to my car.

There are some great spots in Foresthill.... I live in Roseville also and it is not a bad drive, and a lot better than Spenceville.

I am going to try and get out there this Sunday afternoon.... send me a pm if you want some details on the locations or if you want to join in.

Somebody PM Elhefe50ss and ask. He's the C3 who lives in the general area and is likely to know. We're also planning some shoots in the Placer County area, so 'eyes on' the Sacramento Forum.

The Sacramento Chapter is under Northern California, navigate as below:

Calguns.net > Calguns in Your Community > Northern California > Sacramento Chapter

Thanks, after looking at the BLM areas, I think the National Forest is better. BLM just is small and spotty and may be difficult to find a safe place to shoot without people around. There use to be soooooo much land around Sacramento you could shoot but it is all homes now or fenced off.

I use to go off of Sunrise Blvd just south of hwy 50 and there were NO homes, just open land full of rabbits. The farmers liked us to come out with our rifles and shoot the rabbits since they eat the crops. I would like to find someone with a farm or property and shoot.

I'd be interested in Foresthill places. I know a couple above Georgetown but they are under a foot or so of snow right now.

Dillman Range off of Highway 65 is a great place to shoot! Just make sure to go on a weekday when there's nobody there, since place gets completely packed on the weekends.

Just might see you there!

Never been to a range so not familiar with the way you can shoot there. But with so little area other than a long drive to the National Forest, I may have to try it. Probably need to look for some range rules and what is expected. Thanks!
