Default Shipping to yourself when out of state

Hi all,

I picked up a sr22 over the weekend while in Nevada. What is best way to get legally to me in CA? Many in Nevada will not ship. Can I process a DOJ letter on myself and bring it back with me on my next trip? Then gun is legal and on the doj approved list.

Thanks,

N

How did you buy it? If you bought it as a FFL, then the NV FFL needs to generate the CFLC letter, strange as that seems.

She needs to take it to FFL in NV for processing into CA via interstate private party transfer. FFL in NV will ship it to your FFL in CA.

Okay.

She took possession of the firearm and had it registered in her name. I am a 01 ffl and she is not and she is a resident in Nevada. The cflc only applies to 01 to 01( more or less). So as a non-ffl can't she just ship it to me since I am a ffl?

Just got the answer on the FAQ on the DOJ website.

She can either ship it to you or the next time you see her she can give it to you. You log it into your book like normal with her name and address. You only need an FFL to receive firearms, not to send them.

Ignoring the gift issue, you can buy firearms at any FFL but you need a CFLC From them if you are a CA dealer. Sportsman's may be one of the places that won't do dealer transfers or CA shipments. I don't know their policy. But you could have skipped the NICS and tax by buying with your license. Just take a signed copy of your FFL and resale certificate.

That answers the question of how it was purchased and what needs to be done. Since she is a NV resident, she can ship it or deliver it without the CFLC letter. That bit of missing information explains things :-).
