Couldn't agree more, that's why I'm on the "best" coast.

I think I'd rather stay in California and deal with its gun laws then go to Norfolk with no gun laws.

I was stationed in Mugu for 5 years, Pensacola for 3, and am stuck here for 4. I could have gone back to Mugu, but Norfolk is closer to Pensacola than Mugu, and my family stayed behind.

I just spent like the last 10 minutes trying to think of something positive to say about Norfolk. I'm drawing a total blank. It really is the sphincter of duty stations. I think I'd honestly rather do a few years in Diego Garcia than go to Norfolk....

yeah, it is not ideal. At least there are a couple of upsides. 1 is that I am still close enough to get home to see my family on long weekends. 2 is that I am sea duty with C2's......

I spent about 2 and half years there right outside NAS at camp allen and the best thing i can think of is channelos pizza (cheese sticks), cals (probably a z on the end), and the turley leg and jojos at dodges gas station on hampton blvd down the road from the main gate. The hooters at mainside was ok and hapton road days was a good time. And you can buy rifles at the mcx by base housing . Of course all of this was 01-03

And all the historical sights around you colonial williamsburg and some of the other surrounding areas and you guys have a nice chow hall out there

If Fort Irwin was closer to Pensacola than Norfolk, I would trade you in a minute. :P

Had a GySgt stationed I&I at a reservist unit there. His expression becomes extremely somber anytime he gets reminded of that place.

Yup sucks. But buy as many guns as you can afford. Heard you can even buy on base there.

The Mini-MCX off Terminal has a gun counter.

The range at Camp Allen is a great deal.

I would definitely be buying every handgun not available other than SSE in California.

Honestly, I've only stopped in Norfolk once. My Uncle lives in VB, and my parents live up on the Eastern Shore.

I was stationed there from 1970 to 1975. Sounds like things have not changed a bit.

The rep that place had kept me on the west coast for all my active duty.

Was always at west coast overseas commands or overseas. The one time I spent any amount of time over there pre and post deployment through norfolk, it was not a good experience.

I suppose like all things, it depends on a lot of things like what unit, what your job is there, if your from there. But I remember whenever I came up for orders, it wasnt the east coast stuff that was always already taken in my NEC... Tried all 9 years to get back to CA and never could.
