Default Ar-15 barrel question

How many of you have .223 chambered barrels on your AR's? Did you opt for chrome lined also? If so I wanted to know why you choose .223 versus 5.56. There are so many options out there and I am trying to narrow down my choices based on wants and needs (and funds).

If it gets asked I am building an M-4 clone for my first AR. Target shooting , fun gun, not SHTF, home defense or classes in its future. Open both chamberings but curious as to why .223 over 5.56.

I went 5.56 so I had the option. Chrome lined for longevity....not that I'd out shoot non chromed.

TapTalk....bleh!

I've only had 1 .223 chambered barrel from Compass Lake and it was way too tight.

I've since moved up to a .223 Wylde chamber from WOA and it shot just as accurately as the CLE and could take 5.56mm and .223. Now, I shoot Noveske barrels in 5.56mm and they are just as accurate as my WOAs.

.223 give you better accuracy from a .223 bullet.

you can't shoot 5.56 out of a .223 chamber.

if you are getting chrome lined, you might as well get a 5.56 chamber as well.

Have you looked at the Wylde Chamber? or BCM's SAAMI Match 5.56 chamber?

If it's just a fun gun, I say get a 5.56 chamber. That way you don't have to worry about which round you can or cannot shoot.

.223 and wylde for me. non chrome lined.

Not a lot of ammo is 5.56.
When you reload its going to be .223 anyway.

Actually I think 5.56 is the best deal out there.

1000 rnds for about $300.

If 5.56 and Wylde shoot both .223 and 5.56 why do barrel manufactures make .223 military style AR barrels? I have seen quite a few M4 profile non chrome lined barrels available. Other than cost is there any reason to even consider these barrels for a basic build that I am looking to do?
