I don't know if you'll ever forget about graduating boot camp. Plt 1079, MCRD, San Diego, '98. Yup, a "Hollywood Marine," standing tall and looking good, oughta be in Hollywood! Semper Fi!

I gradutated from the REAL MARINE CORPS BOOT CAMP, AKA= Parris Island.

1986 Second Battalion, Platoon 2009, Series 2008.

Drill Instructors:
Sgt. Mabe - Senior DI (The best example ever of a GREAT Senior DI who was a mentor and father figure)
Sgt. Pody - Taught us drill and most of the other knowledge. Great guy who knew the answers to ALL the questions
Sgt. Strumpler - Taught us how much of a @#$! a short little POS Marine could be.
Sgt. Shields - The PT and Punishment DI! We were his 1st plt and he was a NATURAL!! Outstanding Marine!!

And I didn't get any sunglasses or surfboard wax like the Hollywood Marines.

When you get to "BASIC TRAINING" at Benning you will want to avoid calling it BOOT CAMP. Unless you like attention from the DI's

Good luck and thanks for your service

I didn't see this before but someone is pretty observant. I left for basic in June of 2009.

I have made it through basic and I am in Iraq now.

I don't know what a prc77 is but I am a 25U and I am guessing you are something similar.

Haha! Yeah, no kidding! Actually, I went to 2 schools (BE&E, CT "T"), got dropped and went out to the fleet as an Undesignated Seaman. Started in S-1 division where I thought I'd be an SK, but the XO on my first ship thought better (thank goodness!) and had EW2 Fortson (leading EW) teach me! I struck for EW and picked up 3rd class first time up (actually aced the exam!! They had 99 billets and over 1500 took the test, I made first increment!)

I was in C030 and our sister company was K015. Our company T-shirt was the only one in the history of RTC and NTC that was banned from both sides of the base!!! (sure wish I still had mine! Got lost a looooooooong time ago. )

034 here. Did BE&E there as well. Watched daily as the Nukes got pounded for no good reason. I remember thinking to myself "Glad I didn't go nuke". Off to P'cola for more BE&E and SLQ-32 and WLR-1C Operators school.

It's actually happened to me a couple of times. I was stunned both times and first asked if they were serious. I remember standing in line at the grocery store and an elderly couple was behind me. The lady asked her husband "What does USMC mean ?" and he loudly said The Marines. I was shocked that someone from the WWII generation would not know that.

Doesn't the whole world know about Uncle Sam's Misguided Children?

(I'm from a Marine family - Withers is the name on that side - but I did the "black sheep" thing and joined the Army, then the Air Force - even got my sister to join the Army. Figured that I could blaze my own trail there, rather than trying to top what my grandfather and his brother accomplished in the Corps)

Was "lost in the woods, in Misery" as a 17 year old in the summer of 1985, graduated in August from C-2-2, Ft Leonard Wood, MO. Went home for my senior year of high school, and then returned to FLW for Combat Engineer (12B) AIT with B-4-2 graduating in August of 1986. They called this the "split training option" and it was for reservists and guardsmen. We liked to substitute an "h" for the "pl", since it meant we were on TC lockdown for most of basic and AIT, and didn't really get the benefits of OSUT, since we left one company halfway through, and joined another company halfway through.
