Since it is a striker fired closed bolt, that lever holds the firing pin back under spring load. If that ring edge gets worn, that lever will slip off and drop the firing pin and spring instead of holding the fireing pin back in the cocked position. Once you start on the bolt you will see what I mean.

I had 2 extras in my gunners kit at all times. When I sold it to a fellow Calgunner I sent them to him. TNW replaced my orginal for free and sold me spares for $10 each if I remember correctly.
