Personally, for hunting, especially waterfowl, I consider camos only because it helps protect the gun from the salty water i hunt in. For little extra you sefe your gun longer. Pays off in a long run.
For upland it is not that important.
yeah the Camo dip does protect against rust but after 3 or 4 years it will start to get some blemishes from use especially around the ejection port... you can always get it re-dipped when it gets really bad or just get a black synthetic gun and have it clear coated... if you were planning on the gun being a dual purpose gun then upland hunting with it might help the process along as far as the Camo dip coming off :P
