Anyway, what about areas that are not easily accessible without doing a detail strip? I could see some serious rust forming in these areas even with an air compressor and WD40.

I use the dishwasher to clean off my Romy G wood sets. Of course, it helps to have a dishwasher at the office -- and a sympathetic office manager who knows how much MORE hell I'd catch from my wife if I used the one at home.
We just run it another cycle empty to get any additional chemicals out.
