You do not need to pull out the big guns -- .22 LR is recommended. You can certainly earn a Rifleman patch and have plenty of fun. About 90% of the line will be .22 on any given weekend. You can also bring centerfire if you want, either as a backup or in case you're happy with your progress on the .22 and want to try something heavier.
Appleseed is "run what you brung," and every skill we'll show you works the same regardless of caliber. The only exception is if we do a Known Distance portion, in that case a longer ranged caliber is advised. But the Corona range is 25-meter only, so that doesn't apply at that location.
