Bersa Thunder 380 - it is a Walther PPK clone and well built. Only about $300-ish
If you can get it (LEO or the single shot trick) the Ruger LCP is a popular option.
Me personally I would stay away from oddball calibers, like the .25 and .32 - a little tougher to find and more expensive for ammo.
