You can run an 18650 and be under-powered at 4v for a 6v appliance or run two 3V NOT 3.6V 123 rechargeables and a special 3v recharger not 3.6v. The 3.6v batteries actually charge to 4.2 x 2 = 8.4v for a 6v appliance.
