That would make sense wouldn't it but no unfortunately that is not how it works Remington started making them in 2011.
It is possible that in 2007 they changed from the hook to the peg style handle like you suggest though. (I am not sure)
I do not know why Marlin changed the shank and corresponding bolt groove. I have ordered 2 of those handles one pre and one post 2007. Both for rifles made in 2011 (one style of handle was only available in the pre size)
Both handles had to be sanded down to fit my bolts. The pre one taking considerably more work but totally do able.
