Going really heavy isn't necessary. I was in the right place at the right time and scored 10k Hornadys uber cheap.
I don't go nuts chasing velocity, just find a reasonable load and make mass quantities.
Do heavier (longer) bullets wear the barrel faster? That I don't know. I just have a hard stop of 6k rounds before I retire a barrel. I've only had one that went kaput after only 2.5k. It happens...
