I've had a chance this week to use a pair of the kg-uv6x models while visiting Colorado and I like them. They are comparatively simple radios next to my Yaesu vx-6r. I used the programming cable from my kg-uv1d to program them, and it worked well. The Wouxun software is clunky but has a decent online help system, the fee Commander software is better but lacks the help feature. The 6x model I was using does have the standard SMA connector rather than the reverse-SMA of my uv1d model. Audio on both is quite good.

The thing to be careful of is to not wander out of your authorized frequencies. It is quite easy to use the same freq as the local Sheriff or airport. On the flip side, using the FRS/GMRS frequencies is quite easy to do as well.
