Hi, IMO, you are OK to take the gun shooting at the range. You are the legal owner. However, I am not sure what the process was back then (dros/no dros, waiting period, registration, etc.). I am sure someone will interject and enlighten us.

As far as a range to shoot, I always recommend Lincoln Rifle Club aka Dillman range. It is off the old hey 65 just past downtown Lincoln (now Lincoln way). It is $10 per person to shoot for non members and the people are very friendly. Since it is your son, he is ok to shoot with you. Just follow the range rules and you will be fine. You have to bring your own ammo, eye and ear protection. Ammo will be a pain for you to find if you already don't have any. Not much out there.

You can register your handgun via mail to DOJ. There is a form to fill out and you mail in some $ as well. Not sure if this is necessary until you find out more information.
