+1 I did this with a girlfriend once because it was all I had and the range did not have rentals. It was a bad choice. Took her a while before she wanted to go with me again. Then we did it the right way with a .22 and then 9mm before the .45ACP. She ended up liking the .45 better than the 9mm!
