I have been building pc's for about 15 years and I have never seen a Bad CPU, so I would rule that out. The core i5-3570k is an ivy bridge processor and most likely your motherboard requires a firmware update to recognize the new CPU. you would need an older Sandy bridge CPU to use long enough to do the firmware update.
