Guys, they have been doing this for over a century. It is a way to make slugs when you don't have access to slugs. It was really popular in the back woods during the depression in the 1930s. Is it safe? Mostly. Is it a good idea? Probably not. It is one of those things that is useful to know, but not all that useful to do except in emergencies. And truthfully, I think the wax slug concept works better. People tend to get much more reliable results out of that. Without the increased chance of plugging up your barrel with a chunk of torn shell casing.
