Hello from Newbie in Orange County!

Hello! I couldn't find a thread for OC ladies to check in. Not sure if I just gave up too soon or if not a lot of ladies who like guns in this area. Brand new and happy to be a member of the club! I recently started clays and boy is it addicting. Can anyone recommend where I should start looking for an actual instructor? I would like to take some lessons for the shogun and possibly handgun. I look forward to chatting more with all you ladies.

If you are in Orange County and are looking to start learning about handguns, try out our monthly event at Field Time Range in Stanton. Some of our volunteers there are certified NRA instructors and should be able to give you some guidance.

And welcome to the site! Glad you joined us!

I am currently in Irvine. I think I will definitely check out that info! Is it usually a large turn out?

Welcome aboard. You might want to take a look at this thread for shotgun skeet instruction. They shoot at Triple B's which is located in El Monte so that would be about a 40 min drive with no traffic.

Well, if you are in Irvine you have several options for monthly events.

The Field Time event runs 4th Tuesday of every month, and there is usually a good sized crowd.

We also have a monthly event at OnTarget in Laguna Niguel, on the 2nd Friday of every month. The sign up for that event is usually filled within 24 hours of me posting it.

Last but not least we just started a new event at Artemis Defense Institute in Lake Forest that is more focused on scenario based training. Instead of shooting at static line targets, you will find yourself immersed in a 300-degree simulation that forces you to determine whether to shoot or not shoot. Great for preparing yourself in case you ever find yourself in a self defense / home defense situation. This event occurs on the 4th Friday of every month.

Feel free to post questions and I (or one of the other event organizers) will respond as best we can.

Not a Lady myself, but welcome aboard.
Call John at Pacific Sporting Arms in Azusa. He might be able too recommend someone in your area. PSA is THE Shotgun shop in So Cal. John is the owner and knows the sport very well.

I have shot at Triple B's myself. They have a Pro Shop on the property. I believe they do recommend instructors.

Good luck.

a gunnie and an o'ist!

Welcome welcome. I have heard Triple B's is the best localish to us. I have not been and my shotgun for clays is both my most loved gun and my least used. I would also suggest Raahauge's Shooting Enterprises in Corona, I have not shot skeet there but Mike is wonderful and he has a great set up.

I would hasten AGAINST any of the places indoors. With one exception its worth the drive to Oceanside for Iron Sites, its a HUGE rage and the staff there is friendly, knowledgeable and nice. It is owned by a woman which brings with it a slightly different flavor than anywhere else I have been and you can shoot shotgun there ANYTIME not just "for home defense."

Also if you are looking for an instructor I would suggest (if it IS for home defense) Greg Block, if its straight skeet, I am sure the thread mentioned has awesome resources.

I am in Huntington Beach, if you ever need a shooting buddy drop me a PM, always thrilled to have another o'ist in the forum (and I will even forgive you if you are an O'ist -- wow I am a pathetic geek).

Welcome to the sporting clays world! There are very few women shotgunners out there, but those that are--are a good group. I wholeheartedly recommend taking a lesson or thirty. Learning hold point and break point and a lot of other things will help you break more clays. There is a great instructor at Triple B Clays named Cindi Hubbard. She is a really good shooter, patient and understands women shooters.

You should consider trying a fun shoot sometime. Go check out the following places for fun shoots: Triple B Clays, Raahauges, and Redlands Shooting Park. If you show up at Redlands, you may only be shooting with six or seven other people (which can be very good or not so good). Raahauges will have really nice people and a boat load of them. Triple Bs is a bit more serious (sometimes stuffy). You can always enter "sportsman" class and not have to register for NSCA....but you will if you have caught the bug.

Welcome! It's a great sport.....I hope to see you out at a fun shoot sometime. Really consider a lesson from Cindi--she's good people.

I'm in Irvine too and I shoot mostly @ On Target Indoor unless I'm going outdoor. They offer basic intro classes and even all lady classes. You should give them a call. Get a membership, you won't regret it. & welcome!!

I'm a newbie from OC too. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Looking for activities and friends to shoot with.

Hi Mafia Princess and Atlas.....

There is a sporting clays match at Raahauges (Corona) this Sunday (7/14). It's a fun place to shoot shotguns and you can join NSCA for free!

You should try it out.

If your up for it you could come to the monthly shoot at Burro Canyon. We have a outdoor private range reserved on that day for us and there are plenty of great calgunner's there that will let you shoot a mag or two of their, pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc. Of course bring some ammo along so you can shoot their guns.

$15 range fee for all day, and we usually break around noon for a potluck lunch.
