Scopes calibrate for 6.5 Grendel?
I'm building a 6.5mm Grendel AR-15 for a all purpose hunting Rifle. While i wait for parts to come and get my 80% built i'm looking for a scope to put on it. I need a scope that is economical and one i won't crap my self if my son drops it in the woods. I'm seeing scopes calibrated for the .223 drop rate that don't cost and arm and a leg. Do such scopes exist for the grendel ballistics? Keep in mind i'm not going to be doing 1000 yard shots like i see some doing on youtube. Just realistic deer hunting say maximum 300 yards. Are 308 calibrated scopes close enough for government work? I read the ballistics are similar.

I dont know of a scope made to that cartridge off the shelf, but you can get a Leupold with a CDS dial made for your cartridge. The CDS dial is a nice feature. Scope comes to you with 1/4 moa turrets and a coupon in teh box. Call Leupold, tell them your cartridge, they make teh dial and send it to you. Then you install it and youre ready to go. Heres a 4-12 withteh CDS option:

Kenton Industries can make custom calibrated turrets for a variety of different scopes:

A second focal plane scope with a calibrated reticle such at the Leupold VX3 with the varmint reticle can be calibrated for just about any cartridge. You simply have to find the magnification that will match the reticle to the bullet speed you are shooting. Its BDC goes from 200 to 500 yards. Once you know the correct magnification for your cartridge, you must shoot the scope at that particular power. The 200 yard zero will stay a constant, but all the other range lines will be off.

Get a standard MOA or MIL reticle then go on www.jbmballistics.com and work out the load youre using for your reticle. Then go to the range and figure it out.
Theres no such thing as a reticle for a specific caliber. Thats all marketing BS. Different loads of the same caliber can have very different trajectories. You have to do the math and go to the range and put in a days time to figure it out. |

SWFA Super Sniper Fixed 10x. About as good as you will get at that price range.

I should also say however that generally you should be paying for a scope 50-100% of what you paid for the rifle.
My 3gun rifle cost $2000 to build and my scope for it cost $2500 All my house rifles cost $1000-1500 to build and i have $600 Eotechs on them |
