CMP Garands In-Da-House

Well after waiting for two months, the two service Garands (SA & HR) arrived yesterday morning.
I decieded to open one and put the other under the Christamas tree:santa:

Number Uno is a Springfield that was born in Feb 1944
From what I can see most of the parts are SA

I'll take it! The pipe appears to be a tight one. Sure hope she's a shooter.

I like the dark wood. Quite a few beauty marks.

Curious that on the front of the rear sight there are a few light red colored marks. Not sure if you can make the out above the bolt.
There are a few specks also on the stock. Not sure what they are there for/

So beautiful. Congrats

Congratulations! Not sure what that red marks are but could it be some kind of magic marker? I love the nice USGI finish on the metal. Now go find you a lock bar and a milled trigger guard to complete that "WWII Garand look" on that rifle.

You did not take a pic of the left side of the stock above the trigger to show the cartouche. Is it a WWII or DAS stamp? If DAS we need to see the back porch to determine if it is an SA or HRA stock.

Nice rifle.

You can just see what looks like [GSAA] in a small - long box. It's very worn
Not the larger 2" x 2" block.
With the barrel exposed when op rod is pulled back it has a SA 4-44
The receiver serial # puts it at Feb 1944. It would be rare to find orig barrel/receiver
together. I'm just dreaming and need to buy a Garand person lunch and look
this newb over for clues. Very happy with the bore and can't wait to put her on the firing line. -g

Nice score, So you still gonna wait till Christmas Eve to open the HRA?
Are you sure, you didn't somehow sneak onto Santa's "Nice" list?

Just lucky I guess.

Just lucky? You sure are! That rifle just from the pics looks great. Wish I could join you at the range today. Maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know this evening. "G-Lucky-Man"

"Report on #2 after Christmas with tree/rifle pic's." - Nice

Of course if you was in AZ (I think) you can have your picture taken (w/gun) with Santa! HO-HO-HO!

Nice rifle and added plus with the GI Wood! Enjoy that Springer and don't be surprised if your tree loving HRA is as good or better condition. The HRA SG's have been very nice lately.

One78Shovel 12-06-2012 12:07 PM

Very nice. The GI wood was a get. Hows the cartouche? My HRA SG came with the CMP stock. HRA wood is harder to come by I suppose. Waiting on my SG FG to hit the estore.

Mine looks mint. Locks up tighter than a drum. Maybe unissued by looks of metal.

That's wishful thinking that it's an unissued rifle. Take a look at the Auctions, etc and see how many thousands of dollars an unissued M1 is going for. I will say the M1's coming out of the CMP are top notch and regardless of whether it was issued or not, you got an excellent quality rifle that will shoot VERY well. Enjoy!

I believe that barrel is original to the gun, serial and barrel date are within a few months of each other. If the chamber area is in the white (not parkerized) that is an indication the reciever has the original finish. Nice score.

G-Man WC 12-06-2012 10:17 PM

The only information that I can find on what I see my stock cartosh as [GASS] on the
Garand is for a springfield 1903a3.
Here's a link. I'm not sure if one of the posts is valid or if i'm on the right track?

Can't find anything about a stock marking GSAA but C-SAA would indicate a rebuild at San Antonio Arsenal.

I really getting into researching the history on my new child/garand.
Gun history is fascinating to me.

Not unissued, just reparked when going through atleast one rebuild
It seems there are alot of WWII Garands coming out of CMP right now with original WWII Barrels
Nice rifle

G-Man WC 12-08-2012 10:36 AM

I pulled it apart lastnight to look at the numbers to
date it and see what type of mixmaster I have.

Serial# SA2623365 = Feb 1944

Receiver bottem right side = Y 07 (Diamond)
D28291 32 = 1944
Bolt 1 SA 544 = May 1944
B-13 (Diamond)

Stock The cartosh ?SAA (in small rectangle)
I can't read the first letter, as it is worn. It looks to me
= SanAntonio Arsenal (Referb) cartosh

Trigger Housing - WRA (The only part not SA on my rifle)

I may have the origional barrel/receiver/bolt as the dates on the
parts are a few months apart?
I ran a wet patch in the bore and it came out only slightly colored.
The bore looks great with no pits or damage.
